Bad sound in Navigation Portable Plus

Hi,

I have a BMW Portable Plus navigation unit (if I'm not mistaken it's the same as Garmin nüvi 710).

The sound quality really stinks. It sounds like a mobile phone in speaker phone mode. This is especially noticeable when using the bluetooth hands free.
Anyone else with the same experience? Is this the way it should be or is my GPS broken?

Not got one of these but I did look to get one fitted. Local dealer refused to sell it because of issues with the sound so I decided not to bother.
