Stealth price rises by BMW

Apart from changing their prices about three times since the VAT reduction in December I see BMW are starting to fiddle with the standard specification. I thought the fitted mats would be first to go as standard, as they were optional this time last year, but the 2nd target I thought of has happened.

(Coupe only) The 6 cylinder cars go down to part electric seats and the 4 cylinder cars go down to non-electric.

£345 extra to get the 4 cylinder cars back to previous spec. (part electric) and £575 for 6 cylinder cars to full electric with memory.

I don't know about you but I reckon with all the playing about with prices, BMW have effectively raised the prices (in comparison with January 2008) by quite a large percentage - more than enough to handle the exchange rate reductions.

And you can now get chrome external trim on the 4 cylinder cars for £160

I can see them suffering more...

With sales. They won't change specification items that might require re-testing and type approval (so I assume the Xenons on the coupe are safe) but I can see more things going and certain optional item costs increasing quite a bit.

Sterling is in the toilet so raising prices is inevitable. I thought they would go up even more; this may be the first rise of many?

Most imported stuff is either going up or soon will be. For example Plasma TVs are due to go up considerably - Pioneer has already raised spare part prices 47%. Inevitable. Talk of deflation is vastly overdone.

Price rises are inevitable for most imported goods to the UK. Sterling is screwed versus Euro and Dollar. Expect to pay around 20 - 30% more for your goods during this years price rises. Some will be overt, plasma TV, camera, food. Some will be covert, cars stock options will diminish, extra options will cost more, food weights and measures will reduce but keep same retail price.

Just remember to get your 20% salary rise negotiated asap!!!!

a) SE's have had cruise since the E46!
b) BM's whole ethos is based on RFT (except M div)

Yes two different dealers have told me that after seeing it do the rounds on the net.

The 42" plasma would be shite for £400! and look daft on your dash ;-)

It's not quite that bad anyway, for £1800 you get:

i-drive
sat nav
8" hi res split screen
bluetooth
voice control
online stuff
enhanced vehicle settings and information
enhanced display for radio / music / tracks etc using screen
hard drive based system with user storage and CD ripping capability

.....and all integrated in to the cars systems, not stuck on the screen with wires all over the shop waiting to be nicked.

Plus it'll add £1000 to the car 2nd hand.....

might be cheaper for those like me with no I drive to get a CarPC installed. Still won't be able to control the car features without some cool programming.

When are these changes happening? Not reflected on the website if using the car configurator - that still shows seats as full electric with memory as standard.

My mistake. The 330 and 335 still get full electric but the 325 goes down to part electric. Comments about 4 cylinder cars still stand.

One thing I will say...

My 2004 Audi S4 has Sat Nav that pisses all over my 2007 BMW...

As does almost every other part of the interior trim... Sadly...

I still like the BMW more!

Is that on the saloon? I don't think that's a change unless now there are no rear headrests as standard.

No Touring. Just reconfigured my car to see the price differences from last Summer. My car currently has rear and folding as standard, but looks like its £35 now. However it might be the configurator as the Touring needs folding headrest for the seats to fold down.

I was told cruise control becomes an option on the E90 M Sport too; it was standard on mine 5 months ago.

Ah. Voice control is now an extra £305. When you specify sat nav and bluetooth telematics it used to add that on at no extra cost, along with connect drive and what have you.

Not anymore.

Gosh, this is getting back to the days of charging for a radio! I don't think I will buy a new BMW ever anyway, I am sure dealers will stick most decent and needed options on.
