My E92 M3 Has Dandruff!!

Im sure i saw a post about a similar problem before - but i cant remember what the outcome/solution was?? Its just that my car has the same problem and i dont think Head & Shoulders will work!! Every time i get in the car there is a white type of powder residue (and NO its NOT class A!!) over the dash and leather?? Im assuming its coming out of the vents somehow - but its kind of annoying me now and im concerned about what i may be inhaling and whether it could be toxic?? Any thoughts or suggestions???

The white powder is oxidisation of the aluminium air conditioning heat exchanger panel - it is a known issue with a PUMA case on the BMW computers, and requires replacing. Hoops, you need to get your car down to Matt @ Battersea - he can do the oil for you at the same time...

Mine too.

The only problem is its a dash out job to fix it and that inevitably means damage to interior trim and squeaks and rattles thereafter.

Not having mine done...

Ultimately your call but my Cayman had a rattle in the dash area which obviously meant stripping all the dash out etc. My thoughts were the same as yours ie. it will rattle and squeak afterwards..............but it didn't! Nor did the OPC techies cause any damage to the dash.

Aluminium is not the sort of thing you want to be inhaling, it can cause some serious diseases, can't think of them just at the moment though.

If there was a health risk it would be a mandatory recall for all cars in the faulty batch surely.

I've had no trim damage, no dash rattles and no squeaks either. And the dash has been out completely four times now!!! All you need is a good technician. I'd rather have the dash removed than breathing in fine aluminium oxide powder

Mmmm, me thinks i need to get it booked into Battersea ASAP. Tone, is Matt the guy i met at Brands with the M3??? Oil level was sorted by my friends at Mstyle as i couldnt risk driving it around any longer in case it caused any damage etc. But i do still want Matt or whoever to give it the full once over and i guess now i need this "dandruff" issue sorted out too. Will have to wait til i get back from boarding.

I've had mine sorted too - there was a new rattle soon after the work was done, but this has disappeared now. I really think it needs doing, can't be good for your lungs in the long run!!

You'd be mad not to get it sorted. Definite long term health risk.

Hi All,

I have the same issue in my E92. Was there any update on this issue, is the only solution a "dashboard-out" fix ?

Regards,

Alfred

Dash out due to having to change evaporator, no other choice. I have cream beige leather so don't notice dandruff so bad and can live with it for now. No where near as bad in other posts.

Thanks Greatbm. Will probably wait a bit as well since problem since its not so bad for the time being. I would assume if there were any health issues, BMW would have done a recall...
