Anyone here with an ipod interface in glovebox of a E90?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear all, I'm due to take delivery of a 57 plate 335i in 2 weeks time. As part of the deal, the dealer is installing an ipod interface (one in the glovebox). I have a iphone 3g which I know works fine with the bluetooth as I tried it & connected with no issues.

Does anyone on this forum have any experience or knowledge of compatibility with the interface? I know I may have to buy another ipod, which I'm not too bothered about although would prefer to use my iphone if at all possible.

AFAIK, the iPhone won't work with the iPod glove box interface. Nor does it work with the USB port in the armrest if you have that as well. If you havea USB armrest socket, don't bother with a new iPod, just copy all your iTunes folder to a USB flash drive. It works really well.

You will be able to plug your iPhone into the glovebox adaptor and play music off it, no problems (although your iPhone will pop up asking if you want to disable the phone... just say NO). You can at the same time connect the iPhone via bluetooth to the COMMUNICATIONS part of iDrive and make calls as usual.

If you have a USB connection, then you can copy all NON PROTECTED music onto it and play it... to play protected music you need an iPod and the Y-Lead.

Are you using the Y-Lead? If you don't then you shouldn't be able to play protected music, that's why the Y-Lead is needed....

I know that but the OP was asking if his iphone was gonna be compatable with his new car - he received an answer from JZ saying it would not work and neither does it work with the armrest USB interface.

I was collaborating with you saying that this is not correct and it does work with the USB interface - this means it may (and should) work with the glovebox interface also.

Thanks all for your replies.

I am I right in saying the glovebox interface is different to the USB (aka 6FL option) in the armrest which uses the so called "Y" lead?

I was of the understanding the interface "fools" the radio system into thinking it is a CD changer?

Lastly, does anyone here actually have an iphone 3g plugged into the gb interface & know for sure it works fine as there appears to be mixed conflicting replies? I was particularly interested to know if it will charge as well.

Thanks again guys.

why not see if the dealer will fit a USB interface instead? I have the ipod connection in the glovebox. While it works fine, I would have prefered a USB port and.

I dont know what all this jibber jabber is - I am not especially inclined towards enlightenment I am afraid, what I do know is this...

I have a 2007 (old Pro Nav etc so no hard drive) Saloon and I can plug in an Iphone directly via a cable in my glovebox - I dont think there is a 'Y Lead' because its just one cable which was fit by BMW...

It then tells me on the phone screen it is not compatible - but I ignore that shit and just go through I-Drive as someone said before - it splits folders into 'CDs' as if your IPhone was a CD changer...

Done... Maybe not helpful, but its not because I am being arsey, its because I am dumb.

Cheers.

well I'm being charged £180 Inc vat for fitting. They agreed to supply the kit as part of the deal. I was going to have it fitted elsewhere but in the end thought it best the a BMW dealer should fit it.

It won't charge a 3g iPhone without an adapter.

No but, yeah but, are you referring to the Scosche adaptor. Has anyone tried this with a iphone 3g via the glovebox interface?
