Windshield Crack
This is someone else windshield crack but I got one on same EXACT location tonight. So my question is, is this repairable? or Do i need to replace the whole windshield? I was gonna use Safelite to do a repair but before I make an appointment with them, I wanted to see if anyone has similar experience(Not that I want you to have similar experience)
![]() If this is not repairable, should I take it to BMW dealership for replacement, or any other recommended shops in So.Cal? ![]() |

what caused the crack? if it wasnt something that hit it, then see if you can get BMW to warranty it.
i only say that because you said your crack is in the exact same place as the picture you found. so its either a freak coincidence or some kind of manufacturing defect.

Safelite usually says it's repairable if it's no longer than a dollar bill.
That said, the crack will still be visible after the repair. It'll look a little better from the outside but def visible from the inside. But the repair will prevent it from spreading further. Check with your insurance to see if theyll cover it for free.

If you want a new windshield do NOT go to a dealership for one. That looks repairable to me but if you don't want to repair it call local windshield vendors that should be able to do the work with OEM parts for much cheaper than the dealer.

satellite was a good experience when i used them on my '98 mercedes e320.
that sucker should grow quite a bit if moisture gets into the crack and expands... edit//as for the price, i don't know how much class usually costs. are u going through insurance? i think we only paid 150 or so for the glass, and the work was paid by insurance. but of course this was a different car, and from what i remember of previous threads about the material of our windshields... its more expensive because its supposed to resist getting cracked better or something...

I don't think my Insurance will pay for everything, and my deductible is $1000 which is higher than just get it done by Safelite directly. Oh and the crack has expanded already and nowhere close to be repairable LOL IF you guys know any experience with certain shops in LA for better deal than $764.52, please let me know or else I will have to get it fixed here in Santa Barbara.

you should call up your insurance anyways and ask about the windshield. to be honest, i wasn't really sure why we went through insurance, because our deductible is pretty high as well. they said something about it being covered by our insurance... not sure what this means but hey as long as its cheaper

You're lucky it's in the summer kind of weather. I remember I got a crack in my windshield and in the middle of winter. My windshield had dew and was foggy so I put the defroster on and the I was driving and the crack just kept flowing across the windshield to about halfway. I thought it was cool lol but bad at the same time lol. I say you just get a new one for that price.
