A waste - no way. I don't use a carnuba wax anymore (and used Meguiar's and P21S when I did), but they offer good protection for your paint, albeit probably not as long-lasting as a sealant type product.
'Nothing special' ... just guessing that you mean the shine is nothing special. Its all about surface prep ... check the sticky for info on clay bars and polishes before applying a LSP (last step product) like a carnuba wax. How many times -- really, as often has you have time, but you rapidly reach a point of diminishing returns ... it should be not be necessary to wax weekly or even monthly ... you can maintain your finish using a quick detailer or quick wax type of product in between less frequent waxings.

I don't know which color you have or will have but ......
a quality carnauba topped with a quality sealant will yield awesome depth/shine! Darker colors obviously will show the best results of this combination. Also, the carnauba & sealant will last quite a while before needing to be reapplied. ![]() |

As far as what sealant - Jet Seal 109 is highly praised here. I used it for the first time a couple weeks ago and I'm pretty impressed with it. Apply, let cure for 12-24 hours and wipe off. Apply a second coat and let cure for 12-24 hours and wipe off. Then apply some coats of wax on top of it. |

I think a good carnuba can't be beat. Some may prefer the look the look of a sealant. It's all a matter of preference. You should also know if you top a sealant with a wax, the wax does not last long at all. A week at most. You will still have the protection and shine of a sealant but in my opinion you loose the warm shine of the carnuba. I wouldn't put a high quality wax of a sealant. It may just be the combo's that I have tried though.

No. I use the carnauba UNDER the sealant ........ I know it seems backwards however, the combination works really well for the JB.

great replies - last stupid question - after I apply the wax it says to wait till it turns grayish but then its tough as hell to get off and i feel like im hurting the paint using all that pressure to get of that dried wax ( i do use a MF towel) any other methods to take wax off???

One trick I read to solve the problem you are having is to put the water in the freezer and wait till it's very cold (not frozen) - spray that on the wax and it should be much easier to remove. Definitely do not use much pressure when trying to remove the wax. |

![]() Something else that works well is using the Optimum Gloss Enhancer/quick detailer ....... spray a mist over the section you're going to wipe off and it'll come come off as easily as it went on. I've tried other QD's but, Optimum seems to work best for me. ![]() |

Sealants have a difficult time bonding to a carnauba. If it works for you great but the oils in the wax make it difficult for the sealant to bond. Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3M Performance Finish Jet Seal 109 Opti-Seal Z2 & Z5 Pro If you want the look of a carnauba but the protection of a sealant, try Collinite 845 or 476. Both are waxes that last several months. I applied 845 on my F-150 in October and the water still beads and it has a great shine. I put 476 on the wife's Denali around the same time and the beads are tighter and it has a better shine. Pinnacle Souveran P21S Natty's Red Pete's 53 CG 50/50

My car is Jet black and I prefer the look of a carnauba over a sealant. I used to use Zaino, but I didn't like the reflective look. It was very durable though. I switched over to P21S and love the depth and richness of the paint.
I would reccomend a sealant on a lighter color car. Jet Black, Sapphire Black, any of the blues and red, I say carnauba. Just my opinion of course

All good inputs - I have had very good results with both FMJ and JetSeal 109. After applying one of those sealants I top each with Dodo Juice.
As an aside, I believe I read on this board that the quality of finished wax job is highly dependent on the prep. steps (i.e. polishing) leading up to the wax.
