3er to 1er; upgrade or downgrade?
Just looking for some opinions:
Does it make sense to go from two year old 330i to a new 135i? I'm thinking yes, because: Faster Newer Warranty + Service Smaller (exterior) I'm thinking no, because: Relatively Ugly -----> i should say not nearly as attractive instead "Lower" model Smaller (interior) Last edited by MechUT; 03-09-2009 at 02:46 PM.. |

faster yes, but get rdy for alot of turbo related problems. Also IMHO I don;t think it is a "lower" model but it is def the uglier model.
But ya, if you are looking for speed, then yes, It is faster then the 335, and has the same tuning capabilities. But if you're looking for looks without the turbo related problems then you are better off looking elsewhere. M3 perhaps ![]() |

I agree with most of what you say except for the "lower" model thing. Who the hell cares what other people think. It's a driver's car. The only thing that should play into anything is the fact that it's relatively pricey for its size. For a little more, you can have a little bit bigger (a little bit!) car for the money. |

You are going to take a big hit when you trade in your car, especially since yours is relatively high mileage (Of course, I could be wrong).
I guess it really depends on your need as well, going from a 4-door to a 2-door is a big difference in terms of usage.

Massive hit! I've been quoted $16k so far as a trade in.
It'd be nice to have a little extra power, and I'm slightly itching for a change, but I'm not really ready to spend big dollars (especially with the hit on my car). |

![]() Exhaust and intake from Tischer is about 2k, that should help a bit if you don't want to take a hit on your car.

135 is worth the dollar.. my bro has one and so far no problems.. just an adaptive headlight error.. thats all no failures or anything
but if you dont like the small interior you wont like the car .. cause its fast no doubt about that but the interior is small..

What my father said plus: Yes, it's faster, but not the fastest. When does it end with the need for speed? When is it fast enough? IMHO, the only thing a faster car is good for is to rack up speeding tickets faster. When can you use the speed the advantage of the 135 vs your 330? On a race track? Smokin' your buddy on the 407? Driving on 2 lane roads to your cottage? Other negaitves: -huge depreciation on current car -135 uses more gas? Especially when driving fast. -insurance costs more for a newer car -monthly payments which will never end? Positives: -new car, nothing beats the feeling of drving your new car home from the dealer -more warranty Good luck!

If you can find an 08 model, which have discounts as high as 10k, and a private buyer for your e90, then it might be worth the trade for the incremental power. Otherwise, the depreciation seems pretty hard to swallow.

its worth reading this:
http://blogs.edmunds.com/roadtests/2...nterested.html 16k sounds like too much of a hit on depreciation, regardless, take it for a test drive and see if the speed is worth the space and comfort you're giving up. |

Performance-wise, the 1 is better than the 3. It's lighter, and more nimble. I think it was Top Gear that put the 135 vs the 335 vs an old M3 up against each other and the 135 and 335 were similar in performance but the 135 won out by a bit more.
In terms of looks, I hate to say it but a lot of non-BMW owners out there think the 1 looks horribly ugly. As for me, it reminds me of some riced up Toyota Echo's I've seen. Then again, I prefer my cars to be sleek and streamlined (which is why I'm one of the few that likes the 6). |
