E92 Black Grilles Fitted

Fitted the black grilles today and waxed with Collinite. Really fancy the M3 lip spoiler supplied by BMW M Style in Romford. Has anyone who has had this fitted notified their insurance.

If so what was the outcome?

Cheers all.

I've just moved my insurance from esure to Norwich Union because I'd heard on her that they were find with changing to non-run flats (which I'm going to do shortly). NU mentioned that they are pretty much OK with 2-3 modifications but obviously depends exactly what you're doing. I suspect a subtle spoiler of two might be OK. Worth a call (they were the cheapest too for my 330d).

It was an absolute nightmare. I covered the whole car had a cup of tea and then it was welded to the paint. Took ages of really hard rubbing to get it off.

Apparently its better to apply to a panel wait a short while then polish off. I tried this and it was great. Leaves a brilliant shine and beads water really well. I would clay bar first though.

All of the write ups are positive about it. To order try the link.

I am not sure really, I won't tell them about the grilles but I would if I got an M3 lip spoiler.

Told them about the re-map and they charged me £80. That's fair given I have more power. Still money for nothing though.

Looks JLR.

Why would you want to tell the insurance company about a lip spoiler?

Hi Hotcoupe

Your car is the reason that I bought the black grilles, looked awesome when you posted the photos.

I would tell the insurance in case I had a crash and they refused to pay saying that the car is not standard etc etc

Not the reason I was told.

If you had a crash and had some mods done this can make the car more expensive to repair than the standaed car.

Other reason is that they think people who have their car modded either performance and/or bodywork mods are going to be driving a 'bit quicker' than Joe Cautious

I used the 476 S Super double coat. Seems a bit of a minefield when looking for a really good wax.

Used and have the 476 and agree, this is up there as one of the best (bang fer buk) waxes on the market...imo of course, 845 is really quick to put on and take off. 476 takes a bit more work, i use this when doing a long term sealent (nano stuff) results are stunning all good stuff though....collinite is the dogs dangley bits!!
Love the grills as well!!

I agree. I bought some Swisswax when I had the Cayman and the 997 is getting detailed in April and John (detailer) has already told me that he'll use a different product because this car is black and he's seen it used on a black car on the detailing forum he goes on and says it's really good. He knows what he's doing and I trust him, but I'm going to ask him when I see him to explain in more detail about different waxes for different colours of paintwork.

Grilles look good btw. Are you going to change the roundel on the bonnet?

Thanks for the kind comments everyone, it has made a huge difference for only £48

Not sure about the bonnet. Maybe.

Today I waxed the wheels with AutoGlym and then applied two coats of Poorboys wheel sealer. It is amazing stuff, the wheels look better than new and feel really slick. Now a lot easier to clean too...apparently.

This is a product I wish I had known about years ago....buy some now!!!

Yeah, i got Chemical Guys Wheel Guard similar stuff, is pretty good, but have found the collinite 845 did the same job...one product many uses...even used the 845 to seal/polish/wax up the shadow line high gloss trims which seem to get oxidized quickly...its a multifunction wax

Can't go wrong with a black grill.
