6.0 GTO vs 335xi
Today was an interesting day. I almost raced an e92 m3 but the driver was driving way to crazy and frantic. Weaving in and out of cars to show off in front of me, i wasn't going to encourage him more, so i let him go. The gods send me another worthy opponent though. As im driving home i spotted a bright red 6 liter goat about to enter the same highway as i was. I caught up to him on the 2 lane ramp, he looked over as i got next to him and he initiated the race with the 3 honks. We both gunned it from about 35mph, went all the way up to about 90mph (going up hill) and to my surprise, we were neck and neck all the way. I think he had an exhaust and not sure about any other mods, but he did have some stickers for some forum and a few others in his window. I gave him the thumbs up as did he, and we went on our way. I have a 335xi with JB+ at the 75% setting. Needless to say, I was very impressed with my 335xi.
And of course, runs were done in Mexico on the closed highway that i own. The GTO was a 6 speed. |

Funny you posted this, almost ran with a GTO the other day. Was wondering what the car could do. How fast are those things? Tried doing a little search but came up empty. Well, didn't look that hard. Happy with the JB+?

stock they run about what an LS1 fbody does
Low 13s at about 108.
They do run in the 12s modded, but its tough. Figure 3700lbs and about 350 at the tires. A little behind a SC terminator - AKA 2003 cobra mustang good reference - http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...specialty_file SLP LS1 GTO Compared with that car, the Bobcat managed 60 mph in 4.6 seconds (0.2 second quicker) and the quarter-mile in 13.2 seconds at 110 mph (0.1 second quicker and 3 mph faster). Before you scoff at the bucks you'd pay for those somewhat piddling performance increases, the Bobcat improved its 0-to-150-mph time by 2.4 seconds to 27.5 and its 30-to-50- and 50-to-70-mph times by 0.7 and 0.6 second, respectively, to 8.9 and 8.6 seconds. 0-60 4.2 0-100 11.2 LP LS2 vette - We rounded up four- and six-speed automatic stock Corvette convertibles for comparison. Both cars shot to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds. The six-speed showed a slight advantage in the quarter-mile: 12.8 seconds at 113 mph versus 12.9 seconds at 112 mph. SLP's Vette knocks down those times to a stunning 3.8 seconds to 60 mph and 12.2 seconds at 119 mph through the quarter-mile. I knew if the race was from a dig i would have pulled hard, but considering it was a rolling start up hill, I though all that torque in that V8 would have put some lengths on me.

A few others I recently stumbled across
G8-gxp http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...take_road_test Power (SAE net): 415 bhp @ 5900 rpm Curb weight: 3980 lb C/D TEST RESULTS: Zero to 60 mph: 4.7 sec Zero to 100 mph: 11.4 sec Zero to 140 mph: 25.2 sec Standing ¼-mile: 13.3 sec @ 109 mph SC G8 from LPE http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...specialty_file Zero to 60 mph: 4.4 sec Zero to 100 mph: 10.2 sec Zero to 150 mph: 27.0 sec Street start, 5–60 mph: 4.6 sec Standing ¼-mile: 12.8 sec @ 112 mph http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...omparison_test e55 Zero to 60 mph: 4.3 sec Zero to 100 mph: 9.9 sec Zero to 150 mph: 24.5 sec Standing ¼-mile: 12.5 seconds at 116 mph. Propelled by the same supercharged 5.4-liter SOHC 24-valve V-8 employed in the SL55 AMG, albeit with a little less horsepower, it's even faster than the SL55 we tested last November, clocking 0 to 60 in 4.3 seconds, 0 to 100 in 9.9, 0 to 150 in 24.5, and the quarter in 12.5 seconds at 116 mph. That's quicker than anything else in this roundup—quicker, in fact, than any production sedan we've ever tested. Sports-car quick. The last Corvette Z06 we tested (December 2001) hit 60 mph in 4.0 seconds, 100 in 9.2, and 150 in 24.1, and it covered the quarter in 12.4 seconds at 116 mph.

GTOs are pretty fast, especially on a roll-on. Your best bet is right off the line through 1st gear. He will probably have more problems with wheel spin. And with the XI, you definitely need to race from the dig! They are faster than you think. I go out of my way to race GTOs. They are in the same category as SRT8s.
Speaking of the JB+. A guy I know tried to race me in his 07 MCoupe last night. He said he thought I was going to beat him. I did. Pulled 1.5-2.0 car lengths by the time will hit 70. I had a passenger too. JB+ is pretty impressive. Without it, I would have a hard time pulling him at all with a passenger, thats for sure.

raced a couple of heavily modded gto's here in town, pretty quick, but man they break traction real quick like. seems they pay more money for straight pipes to sound loud and obnoxious as hell then they do to keep the wheels from spinning. but at the track neither one of them could get better then 13.3......

I raced a GTO coming home from Frisco a couple years ago. My stock 335i didn't stand a chance. We did about 3 runs not from the dig because we were on the 101 but from around 45 or so. Every time I would get about a half a car length on him and then he would shift and it was all over.

Had a chance with a GTO 6.0 highway straight coming to the mountain. We were pretty neck and neck till the First tight turn....and Good buy. And im not kidding I looked back and his car had such roll on the turn. Buy the second turn he didnt want to play anymore. That is were I saw the real Difference with My BMW. It was akin to being on a sport bike compared to a cruiser.

JB3 WILL disaapear on a stock GTO. Raced a few. No way in hell they are catching up with map 4+. JB+ on full setting will probably take a GTO IMHO.
Good race man. |

humm - i had a 05 ls2 powered gto - sold it - bought a mkv gti - sold it bought the 335i. i sold the gto to my best friend....he installed sts rear mount turbo kit @ 8psi made 505rwhp/550rwtq.....then we put it back to stock so he could trade it in for new tundra.... anyhow.... both cars bone stock were dead even he could not pull away from me....
the ls2 is a great motor - it just belongs in a car worthy of its power....the gto was a hunk of crap - i only kept it 3 months. |

this is pretty crazy because just today i encountered a silver 6.0 GTO weaving in and out of traffic and trying to provoke a run out of me. i would have been up for the challenge to see how my 335i would do but LA traffic sucks majorly.
