Riss Racing Intake & Air Scoops Installed

Thank you Anthony & Adam @ Riss Racing! These guys are great to deal with..I know they're swamped w/ inquiries but always find a way to answer any questions I've had thus far.

&, Tthank you to Daniel@Riss Racing for installing the parts! PM Daniel for ANY install, any manufacturer, etc..He's really good, knows what hes doing, especially with BMWs & does mobile installs for anything he can

Goodbye BMS DCI

My 1st impression in terms of how it looks is very pleased. The tubing & welding is very high quality, it looks soo much better then the DCI. & in comparison to the DCI, the RR intake is vacuum sealed which should definitely help the turbos spool faster & increase low end torque..I don't have dyno test results to prove this but throttle response in the low to mid RPMs feels a lot stronger!

I also installed the RR Air Scoops, just wanted to feed air into the intake as efficiently as possible..

Your rationale for the change was a) looks and b) you think it performs better?

I'd be curious to see any dyno results of pre & post RR intake but this has been discussed quite a lot that most intakes are well within a margin of error of each other for performance (except for those folks with AFE intakes stating they loss power)

GL to ya either way..

Well the scoops are probably going to come into play at FWY speeds. And at 100mph should be working really well. I plan on doing some testing next weekend, if I can get the new JB3 MAP to launch without massive wheel spin. It makes for inconsistant results when you can keep the throttle down for so long!

Could you please give the dimensions and the part number of the KN filter provided with this kit?

a. yes, it looks a lot better than the dci. the dual cones don't aesthetically look like they belong in the engine bay of a bmw.

b. i didn't say i think it performs better, i said i don't have a dyno sheet to prove that it performs better but it feels a lot stronger in the low to mid RPMs. however, vivid racing posted a dyno graph of their gains w/ this intake in the low RPMs & i believe they gained 10hp consistantly..

& yes, this is absolutely true, at low speeds they really have no use what so ever..i drove to sonoma this past weekend, about a 400 mile drive each way & this was my 1st long drive since installing the scoops & intake & you could really feel a difference at high speeds, i've done this drive multiple tmes as my gf lives there & i never felt the car pull as hard above 100mph as it did this last trip..

How much air does that take away from the radiator/FMIC?

Looks awesome. You just need a plenum now!

I personally think this set-up (especially with the plenum) will make the most power.

It's not gonna take air away from the FMIC. The scoops are much higher. I am kinda concerned about the scoops "stealing" air from the radiator. For those that have a Helix or AA FMIC which already block/steal air from the radiator, I'd wonder if having scoops steal more air would start to become problematic.

Come on, neither the Helix or AA intercooler steals air from the radiator. This is simply rediculous. Here is a picture of Mr. 5's car with the front bumper off. Do you see where the radiator is located? Can you tell me how the aftermarket IC is taking air from the radiator any different than the stock IC. Again I ask, if you don't know what you are talking about avoid the conversation. Posting garbage without knowledge helps no one.

Look at your own photo dude. Seriously. Those FMICs are taller than the stock FMIC. Immediately above the stock FMIC is the bottom of the radiator. Compare to a photo that Andrew took when installing his FMIC. It shows his 135i with the FMIC removed. You can see the bottom of the radiator. You can't see the bottom of the radiator in your photo because the taller FMIC is blocking it.

The fact that the taller FMICs block a portion of the bottom of the radiator has not been debated, it's simple to see. The question that some have posed is whether this relatively small amount of radiator blockage is a problem or not, and most feel it's not. MY POINT was that if you combine this relatively small amount of radiator blockage from the taller FMIC with what appears to be a small amount of radiator blockage with the scoops, will this begin to become problematic?
