Exclamation Upcoming Audi RS3 to Receive 5-Cylinder Turbo from TT-RS

According to a recent report, Michael Dick, a member of Audi's board of management for technical development has stated that the company is considering building a new RS3.

Power would come from Audi's 2.5-liter five-cylinder turbocharged engine, with 340 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque, which has launched on the recently unveiled TT-RS. Considering that the proposed RS3 would probably weight about as much as the TT-RS, a 0-62 mph time of around 4.6 seconds sounds reasonable as does the suggested 179 mph (288 km/h) top speed.

With the next generation A3 not scheduled to be unveiled until 2011, the possible launch of the RS3 is still several years away should the model be given the green light in the first place.

It's just an artist rendering, but it looks hot.

I feel like VAG is going to dominate the hot hatch segment for the next decade or so with all of their upcoming models. Let's see what the competitors have to say.

Oui Oui, if it makes state side I may sell the 135i for this, or the new 1 series SS with TT4

Damn that rendition of the RS3 looks smoking!!!!

But this makes me wonder, similar weight between the RS3 and TTRS, same engine...... only possible different to me in buying a TTRS at this rate would be the overall interior/extrior luxury, higher performance and response, higher cost rims, suspention, brakes, and a few other things.
Guys agree?

Thanks for the compliment, it's my chop from ages ago. Worldcarfans asked if they could use it

I agree on the RS3 idea. I really like it and Audi offer a 3-door and sportback version with 5 doors, so it will def appeal to a big market.

I love the idea of an RS3 and god knows it would help with the costs of developing the new engine we see in the TT-RS but at the moment I am unsure as to whether there is a market for a £38K hot hatch, even one with the four rings on the hood, because that would be the price they would be looking based on the price of the TT.

I know I would probably jump at this quicker than either the M3 or TT-RS but that's a lot of dosh for what is in essence a pimped up Golf.

I really like the A3, but I don't think the rendering is all that great. Those openings under the headlights are just too big. The whole thing sounds a bit too iffy and probably because they know the price would be ridiculous. If I had to carry more stuff around I would have got an A3 3.2 and be investing money to improve it. The end result may not have been to far off what they are looking at here, but the price would been better.

Good job Audi!

It looks like I may be picking one of these, or one of hte new S4s up for my next ride... that's fantastic looking, and after my S60R, I LOVE turbo 5-cyl motors.

How was the powerband on them? was it pretty similar to the 135i?

Similar, with a touch more lag, and obviously ~30 less hp, as they were not under rated.

I would agree with your opinion about lag, a single turbo setup producing this amount of power and torque from 0.5L less capacity has to be using a bigger turbo unit and obviously lag will be more. But I think you will be miles off with your opinion of this engine being under rated, well if the S4 engine is anything to go by.

I'm sure you will find the TT-RS will perform even better than expected, exceeding all expectations.

I meant the N54, not the S60R motor.

It consistently dynos in the 270-280rwhp range on a dynojet, which is as much or more than an E46 M3 rated at 333, and only 70-80 off the E92 M3 rated at 414(I've mostly seen ~350rwhp on dynojets).

If the TT-RS is as under rated as the new S4, it will be a legitimate Cayman S competitor.
