What to tape up? (my first polish)

I'll be mainly using the zaino ultimate car kit and my good old hands to do my 335i (sedan). Though I'm not too sure what I should be looking to tape up. Doors, BMW sign, rubber edges by the windows? Any other advice for a 1st time would be helpful but I'll prolly end up reading the other threads so I don't botch up or miss anything

THanks

The pros can probably help you more then I can, but I tape my windshield (edges), my sun roof (edges), roundels, front grill (mine is matte black), headlights (I have amber covers), tail lights (edges), tail pipes....I think that's it. I also lay some old towels on top of my tires so they don't get any overspray from my quick detailer, which I use frequently during a full detail.

Well, the main use of blue painter's tape is to prevent the rotary from burning plastic parts.....

Since you are doing this from hand, you shouldn't have much problems with burning anything, but it will make it easier for clean-up, as you will not have any polish in areas you don't want it.....

I tape up everything that I can see:

Trim
Headlights
Taillights
Foglights
Roundel
Window Trim
Roof Rack Rails
Sunroof
Grill
etc....

If you aren't using a machine, IMO there's no need to tape anything. As Kgolf31 said, tape is for when you machine polish, to avoid damaging trim or getting polish stuck in little crevices that are hard to clean out. When you apply Zaino by hand, just work around those areas.

Agree. No need to tape if doing by hand.

i do the moon roof no matter what if i am messing around this wax or polish hand or machine b/c i hate cleaning the felt like rubber seal that borders the glass from the panel. that thing is a bitch to get perfect without doing minor damage to the surrounding area such as scratching the clear coat from pulling out dirt and whatever else is stuck on it.. I wish they chose a stiffer slightly glossy black rubber instead.. you could dress it with black wow and be done with it. really it's my only complaint in regards to cleaning the car at all.. still as a whole it is much much easier to detail than my e34 540i I'll tell you that.
