M3 E46 vs 135/335
I was just wondering do you all think the 135/335 cars will be able to make and hold power like the E46s? I mean horsepower freaks are putting up big numbers with those cars. Is that in our future too?

Yes i think the 135-335 will be up there.. with just bolt ons and little tiny turbos we are pushing over 400WHP.. imagin with a single 35R kit... givin a Year i believe these cars to be in the 550WHP club.

It has felt like several companies have been on the 'verge' of producing a turbo kit for the N54 since late '07...Im starting to think I will believe it when i see it...

I dont think the N54 has a prayer of producing the kind of numbers HPF is getting out of the S54 w/ their Stg III and IV kits. For some reason the N54 is an open deck block, not good for high amounts of boost. Its sleeved, but still open deck.

Yes that is what I am afraid of too. I kind of wished I would have looked at a used M3 now. But I still love my car.

You could sell your 335 and get a used M3 then pay about $20K-30K in upgrades if you like.

agreed completely, but line a fully modded 335 or 135 up against a boosted e46 M3 and its game over. Thats what the OP is asking. Down the line the n54 powered cars will produce more power than they are now, but I dont see them catching the highly modded M3's.

I had a highly modded car with more money in it then I would like to admit. I love having a car with a bunch of power that I can rely on. The tranny, the pistons, rings, rods, etc. When you enter a certain level of hp, you introduce a lot of uncertainty that can weigh on you when you really just want to enjoy the car.

agree 100%, once you cross over that level of HP you are going to deal with problems.
just to see what we're talking about though, here is a HPF stg III car on 91 octane and meth.......

AMS is doing two small bolt-ons right now. They're working with Forced Performance to create this kit. They say in the future they will try of a single big daddy turbo kit, but for now they're working on the two small ones.
Thanks, Izzy |

The s54 is built way more solid then the n54, it's not just the block. Don't forget the heat problems the n54 has too. They two engines were engineered to begin with for two very very different purposes, if you think they are even comparable you're delusional. And I said that before I switched engines.

I think the N54 has loads of potential and any shortcomings/weaknesses will be addressed with an HPF turbo kit if and when it comes out.. but like one post above says, our cars are already in the 11's with the stock turbos

HPF hasn't even hinted at any plans, I doubt they even considered it.

I love my 335i but in my opinion this is not the platform you buy in hopes of big power. Too many more cost effective choices out there if lots of power is your only objective.
