iPod Cabling- Is this True?
I have a '97 335i and had the iPod cabling installed on delivery and the cable is located in the glove box. I recently purchased a new IPod Nano and the new unit does not charge with the cable. Plays fine, just no power.
I dropped the car off for service and the SA is telling me that because BMW has changed the location of the cabling to the center console the can not update my old cable to the new cable that BMW put out back around November to match Apple's new pinouts. This makes no sense to me, its a simple cable. Is this correct? |

My Itouch charges. I have the USB connection cable with the speaker plug and USB plug. Do you have the dual plug? There were two different Ipod connections available. Mine was the more expensive.

It could be true actually. I know that the iPod Touch 2g, and the iPhone 3g weren't supposed to be able to be charged by the BMW, so this could be true of iPod's starting with the current generation as well.

The latest nanos and iphones (may be others) only require 4.5V to charge. The old cables kick out 12V and will work on ipod classic but give the charging error you are seeing when it is not needed.
FYI ... I bought an adapter for my nano to kick down the voltage and all is good. |

the guys from bavariansoundwerks.com and www.specdock.com have highlighted that the iPOD kit from BMW will not charge the largest iPODs and highlighted it is best to get the USB charging kit which apparently is all plug and play with the BMW iPOD kit and allows you to place the iPOD in the dash instead of the glove box.
Take a look @ www.specdock.com. I hope to get that soon for my e90. Thanks Paul |
