Unhappy 330d Auto - slow 2nd to 3rd change

Does anybody else think the auto change from 2nd to 3rd is a bit slow? Not sure if it’s a software issue or the fact there is a huge gap in the ratio (revs drop about 1.2k).

On full throttle there is a distinct pause as the car changes up (compared to say 1st-2nd or 3rd-4th)

Cheers.

The difference in gear change speed is probably down to the torque management settings in the ECU. The early 335d had a similar issue with a 2nd-3rd gear change, in that it would perhaps take half a second longer than normal, with a resultant feel of the car bogging down a bit. A software update on the 335d did a lot to eradicate the slow change, as the torque management parameters were altered slightly.

I don't know how new your cars is, or how old the software program is, but you might want to consider a software update to the latest spec. Also at the same time, ask the dealer to reset both the engine ECU adaptations and most importantly the gearbox adaptations. Then drive the car properly, don't baby it, and the gearbox will take on a new and hopefully more determined persona...

Hello, was hoping your would come along You are spot on, feels like the car bogs down for that extra half second.

Its a Jan 08 build, so just over a year old. Can I find out the software version or is that a dealer job?

Software is a dealer job - my guestimate is that it will be a V30 or thereabouts... we are now on V33.0 - there may not be any difference for your car, but by resetting the engine ECU and gearbox adaptations, you will be able to hopefully reduce that 2nd to 3rd gear 'hesitation'

Thanks - will get it booked in.

One last thought, does a remap also update the autobox?

No, normally the ECU update doesn't update the gearbox control unit, unless there is something specific in comparison to your existing software... For those on V23 software, as in cars built towards the end of 2006, there IS a difference in gearbox control logic compared to V33 software... however, there is NO difference between V32 and V33...

fook me, i had that before at the drag strip In feb. How weird. I just thought it was me not shifting quick enough and letting the power drop off slightly close to 5k.

This is happening in D, DS and Manual

I have had it since I got the car (about 3 months now). You should get it booked in at least to log the fault under warranty.

Was told cars with pre V25 may suffer with the tourqe control side of the autobox. All versions after should have no problems. Did loose my remap after the progman update, no drama though will stick it back on

Glad you guys got yours sorted out ok

My gear changes are sluggish mine is 07-07-2007 build, the functional software ver is 007.178.001 but I don't know how that relates to progman versions.

I did spend half an hour reading about 335i lag issues trying to find out!

Is there an updated SIB, TSB list or something that I can find to use to get the car updated free ???

I suppose the worst case is I will have to pay for it

Your car is still in warrenty though - this is a free update (if you can get the dealer to actually accept the work needs doing!)?
