Best Spray-On Wheel Cleaner???

Hi everyone. I just picked up my new M sport and I'm pretty psyched. I was just just wondering what is the best over the counter spray-on rinse-off wheel cleaner I can buy???

Working non-stop, being married and having a 6 month old baby girl means I'll only be able to actually hand wash/detail my car about every 2 weeks, so I'm looking for something to use a couple of times a week. IT MUST NOT BE HARMFUL TO MY PAINT, RIMS, TIRES, BRAKES, ETC!!!!

I've been on here a long time, so please don't tell me to search, as I don't have time to weed through 4 thousand results from 2005 until last week. I'm simply looking for a quick response from one of the experts here so I can pick up a few bottles on the drive home tonight.

Thanks very much in advance guys, as I'm really a novice when it comes to cosmetic care care.

Poorboys Spray and Rinse works great when you dont have time to do a full wheel cleaning, find it at detailedimage.com

nothing at autozone or someplace like that is any good. just use soap and water with a wheel cleaner brush. if you do want to order something online then i would recommend the poorboys spray and rinse. its a lot better than the over the counter wheel cleaners, theyre too harsh on rims.

If you have the time treat your wheels to DP wheel glaze or Wheel wax and you'll never need a wheel cleaner. Just soap and water and re-apply the wax. Both products can be found on autogeek.net or detailedimage.com Even if your wheels have neveer been treat the Wheel Glaze will take the brake dust off and leave the wheel as smooth as the paint when waxed.

I have been truly impressed with DP Wheel Glaze. I just blast the wheels with a garden hose no high pressure and it all comes off; then i wash the whole car with car shampoo.

You'll be like when you clean them for the first time after just one application.

As a newbie with a 335i cabrio, do you guys remove your wheels from the car for a thorough cleaning, or use the spray and clean products with the wheels on the car ? If removed, what are the torque specs when replacing them ?

TQ for the lug bolts is 120 Nm or 88.5 lb-ft. With an EZ brush, you can clean the whole rim without removing the wheel, except for the bit behind the caliper. You can roll the car a few inches and get that area.

TQ specs are right on as is the cleaning.

I do however do a full cleaning and wax when changing from winter to summer wheels/tires and vice versa. I do recommend removing them if you do decide to use a wax, makes cleaning a whole lot easier between seasonal removals.

Poor Boys it is. I'll order it tonight. I'll also be trying the DP Wheel Glaze in a few weeks when I have more time.

This was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks very much everyone......

I just put on a new set of wheels. I did a layer of Wheel Wax, and then a layer of Poor Boys Wheel Sealant. I'm hoping I can get away with my normal auto shampoo and the proper cleaning tools to get the job done. I also bought some P21S Gel Wheel Cleaner if things get bad.

I plan on taking the wheels/tires off in the spring and fall to do a full cleaning and re-aply the wheel wax and sealant. I found this thread a good guide in cleaning the wheels:

I was just at Pep Boys to pick some stuff up for my truck and found Surf City Grime Destroyer on the shelf. I had a sample bottle when it first came out and really didn't use it. I gave it a try tonight on my F-150 and it cleaned my wheels, wheel wells, and my bumper up nicely. I will keep it part of my detailing arsenal and will use it on customer cars as well.

no doubt it is a great product but it is not a simple spray on and hose off type of a cleaner. You still need to use a brush to make it truly effective. I think the Op is looking for something that is spray on spray off type of a thing.

If you're looking to remove massive amounts of brake dust that has been caked on through rain and months of buildup, a cleaner that will be spray-on-spray-off would have to be incredibly strong. I would rather opt to use a less harsh product like p21s wheel gel and agitate to remove the buildup. If the buildup is really that bad, let the wheel gel sit for a little longer than the directions say.

You're exactly right. They never get really bad in between details, but the build up is definitely noticeable, which is why I'm looking for a simple spray-on-spray-off product.

Ironically, when I do detail my car every couple of weeks, I only use warm water mixed w/ a touch of soap (Maguiars Gold Class) and they look perfect afterwards.

Why does everyone here use all of these expensive products just to clean regularly washed wheels, when a gentle soap and warm water work perfectly???

i don't understand rim cleaners they don't really do anything beside loosen the dirt (assuming if it even does that) i found that the best thing to do is pick up a rim cleaner brush and some soapy water. I've tired probably 5 different cleaners and was never impressed.

just buy a decent brush, wash your car and after washing your car use the left over soap and use that to wash your wheels, tried it today and works just like any rim cleaner I used

Not everyone has time to keep up and I've fallen behind myself but the best method I found is to just stay on top of your rims. This doesn't require pulling out the bucket and hose every night but once you do a good clean just take a microfiber and whipe them down once, maybe twice a day. At minimum I'll whipe them down after I get home from work and sometimes I'll whipe them down after getting to the office in the morning. Not letting all the dirt build up is key. It may sound ridiculous but it takes up only a few minutes a day and saves so much time when you wash the car.

Mix 4-5oz of Chemical Guys CWG in a 32oz bottle, and it will work the same exact way. You can let it sit to do its work without damaging the wheels and its safe on all wheel finisher.

I personally like using P21S Total Auto Wash or P21S Gel Wheel Cleaner.

Hope that helps.
