Oem Performance Carbon Air Intake

Hi guys,

I am currently using a K&N high flow air filter, but have seen this product and am wondering if it is worth the money. Does it produce decent gains in hp / torque or is it merely for looks / sound?

Thanks in advance for your advise!

Cheers.

Just the Filter?

No gains, in looks sound or performance, (well maybe 1-2 hp) its just a better design then the paper OEM one

so pretty much the carbon intake is a waste of money?
I was quoted $1,500 AU to purchase it from BMW dealership, not including labour...

Sorry man, I completely misread your post... thought you were just asking about if the K&N Air Filter alone in the stock Airbox would make a difference in power

That being said, I don't have a BMW performance intake, so I dont know in person, The BMW Performance intake seems to be a Debaffled version of the Stock Airbox, with a high flow filter.

Based on my Prior modding experience, id say that Replacement Air-box style Intakes seem to be the most neutral, they give decent power throughout the rev band. Cone filter designs tend to make power in the upper edges of the Rev-band, but either not do much, or in some cases even take away power down low. Also Air-box Designs tend to be quieter then Short Ram or Cold Airs

A lot of people seem to get the BMS (I think that's what it's called). It's one of the cheapest and gives you the best bang for buck. After all, the principle of how they work is simple and the same, so why pay for an expensive one unless you plan on showing the car.

gruppe m +1

should get 6kw for 325, and makes the car sound 10 times better.

I would imagine the BMW performance intake would have similar results for twice the price.

it seems this is the best way to go

how many kw would you get for just the K&N filter in the stock airbox?

and where in Australia is the best place to purchase the gruppe m? I found one place but they seem a tad expensive see the link below:

There is a replica available on Ebay sometimes. I purchased one for approx A$300 delivered. Still needed slight modification to fit and didn't do anything for performance. I took it out and sold it off. I didn't offer it through this site because it wasn't something I could honestly see value in.

Maybe negative 2Kw or so. Been there - done that - tried other options - went back to standard setup. Seriously, the throtle response is a bit crispier and responsive down low but as soon as you get up in revs, I felt it sucked performance out. I always thought the K+N worked well with the 6cyl but deffinitly failed to do anything possitive on the 4cyl E90.
