Some MP3s won't play...
How come some MP3s won't play in my car? Is it because the mp3 file is copyrighted? or is it because of this http://www.bmwtis.com/tsb/bulletins/...p/B651805g.htm ? Thanks.

i've had my car for a year, and i am yet to have a problem with single mp3 file, other than large dj mix mp3s. Sometimes they just start playing from the beginning, and not where you left off before shutting down the car.
Are you having problems with mp3's off a CD, USB stick/hard drive or 6FL iPod connector? Also be more specific on the problems you are having. All of my mp3 files are 320kpbs and they work great from all kinds of different media. Audio CD's on the other hands are pissing me off (as much as the POS cd player itself) 1. hiccups between songs, even if the CD is gapless mixed cds. Does it with both, factory and self-recorded 2. sometimes audio CD would just go from Track 1 to Track 3, completely ignoring Track 2. 3. Sometimes starts playing dj mixes (recorded as one track) from the beginning. (does the same thing with mp3 files) I also burn audio/mp3 CD's at 8x to avoid errors.

when you burn mp3's as Audio CD it strips out the DRM (at least in iTunes), so copy protection is unlikely to be an issue over here.
What is the quality of the mp3 you are burning? Is it CBR or VBR? I hate VBR and never ever use it, because it is flaky as hell. I would not even download anything from the internet, unless it is 320k/CBR. Is it happening with the same files or randomly? Are you trying to burn a regular CD or gapless (no 2 second pause between songs) ? In either case try burning at 8x or try different brand of CD's. From my djing experience I find Maxell blank CD's very reliable, as i play on a gazillion of different CD players and they haven't failed on me once.

I've always thought burning a "digital rights managed" MP3 to an audio disc, then ripping it back to MP3 from the new disc, strips off any DRM. Is that not working for you?

Right, audio CD's do not support DRM, so that data is completely stripped when burning onto CD.

Make sure your files are 44.1Khz, anything else won't work in the car. On occasion I've "acquired" files that were encoded as 48Khz.
BTW I burn on Verbatim CD-RWs @ 10x so I can wipe and revise my selection anytime without feeling that I've wasted a disc. My car has the factory cd changer so I use 7 of them at a time.

When you say rip it back to mp3 fromt he new disc, do you mean just pop in the cd that I burned into the computer and open the disc drive then drag the files out from the CD to the computer then burn with those files again?

Those instructions seem kind of elaborate. Burn your MP3's to an "AUDIO" CD, then just treat the CD as if it's store bought: rip the whole CD back to new MP3 files.

in iTunes go to Preferences -> General
When you insert a CD: Ask to Import CD Now click on "Import Settings" button. Import Using: MP3 Encoder Setting: Custom -> Stereo Bit Rate: 320 kbps and hit OK. that's it. now when you insert a CD, iTunes will ask you to import it, and if you hit OK, it will import the CD into your library in 320/CBR.
