Confused about Canbus

Im trying to figure this out, but there are so many scattered threads about Canbus and I cant seem to find a definitive answer.

I dont have the Rev2, I have the old school Procede back from 2007, but I am upgraded to V3 with the PNP harness.

Now, from what I can tell, I cant upgrade to the Canbus interface right? Unless I go to Rev 2?

So I have to spend another $675 to gain access to this.

Enough is enough, the Procede is amazing, and quite frankly my car is running perfect now. I cant believe I have to shell out more money to get this feature. Oh well.

You don't *have to* shell out anything. Just enjoy driving your car. You don't need CANbus to do that.

I still don't understand why people are complaining that they don't get a hardware feature for free on a device that was bought years ago.

There's new revisions on products all the time, you don't see Apple upgrading people's old iphone to the new iphone 3g because they are missing 3g capabilities are they?

+1. Research and development costs time and money. Like Shiv said, you don't "need" anything. Your car is great the way it is...but if you want to play you gotta pay. Do you expect BMW to upgrade you to the latest model for free every few years?

Im not saying its wrong, Im just venting because I just bought a new house, and I cant spend as freely as I used too!!!!

And if I am not mistaken, I paid for the initial procede, then v2 upgrade harness, then the PNP harness, and now this would put me over the cost of a brand new one at the current price.

You have to pay to play!! I cant pay!!! But my car runs beautifully now, I was just excited to clear two codes, but its not worth the cost at this point.

Agree!!

You can't expect freebie hardware upgrades. The n54 tuning stage is changing all the time, and if you want to be at the forefront at all times you're going to be paying for it. Priorities! Sounds like you have yours worked out though. Enjoy the house!

I did the same thing, but ended up paying for Rev II as well. I like the O2 sims built in, Canbus, and whatever else comes along. I also grabbed a Bavtec tool to clear codes, before I knew the Procede would be able to do it.

I'm still on procede maps 3.0 right now and the car feels great on Rev1.

Since the car is purley a hobby car now, I might give the meth kit a try when it comes out, but FMIC and Full Exhaust are next.

Paying to play is so true!

Enjoy the car and your new house.

Imagine the cost if you wanted to upgrade to the new i-drive.

Dont have them entirely worked out though, =) 60" Pioneer Plasma is on its way!
