Right behind a cycle rider when he went down - straight/dry road/level ground

So I'm like heading to a meeting at about 8:54 a.m. and just passing a underpass at about 35mph.

I am in the left lane and there is a motorcycle ahead of me about 4 or 5 cars. Just a little past the underpass the motorcycle goes down on the ground HARD. The rider kind of rolls out of the road to the median and the bike slides probably 50 maybe 60 feet to the other lane. I stop in the road and hit the flashers and go check on the rider.
He is just getting to his senses and sitting there with a little scratched up knee and pulling his gloves off. He says hes ok but needs a few mins.

I go and get the bike and get it out of the road. I get back to him and say I did not see anything that would cause him to go down (not a lick of water in the road or anything - only scratch marks where the pegs dig into the pavement). He said the throttle stuck wide open. I guess when he shifted it just lost the back tire. Hes got a little blood on his nose but otherwise appears ok. I check the bike and it starts up ok.

I guess he had the unpleasant job of getting back on it and getting to his destination.. I'v had to do that and its not fun..

Take care chris..

The bike looked kind of modded. Real low bars and rearset pegs..I imagine some other stuff known only to him.

Nice of you to stop, most just drive right by and pretend not to look when you are in need of some help.

Yeah, actually pretty well outfitted. Helmet and good thick jacket. Kind of strange about the nose, I don't think he even hit his head on the pavement. Might have just been the shock of going down.

Nice job stopping and helping to make things safer for everyone, no one wants to go down then see a multi-car crash caused by their bike. Sounds like he must have been wearing some good gear.

Well, thanks - I really didn't post it to get some type of recognition. Just more of a reality check moment for me (not common around this small town).

I think Im about at a zero sum gain for driving yesterday. I kind of cut in front of someone(when turning in for gas) and did not leave him enough room (it was closer than I thought) plus I got the old e-throttle delay when you press theres was just a little lag. He was ticked to the point of turning around and asking me what I thought I was doing. I apologized and said I did not realize it would be that close.

I said I just had a little lag when I pressed the gas. He said man your car is a bimmer, what model is that?? He walked around to the back and saw the 335 logo. He said man, that thing moves .. I said your right, but sometimes theres just a little hesitation.

He said well, maybe he was just having a bad day. I offered to buy him a beer.. he said he needs one.

I should not have tried to turn there.. and turned at the intersection instead. Lesson learned.

Strange day behind the wheel for me yesterday.
