L.E.D. Number Plate lights!

Hi all,
Only after buying my 320 m sport coupe so im new to the forum but already liking what im seeing! My first thread is about the led number plate lights that have been fitted to coupes since sep '07, sadly mine is aug '07 and have the ordinary yellow ones! I ordered the led verson but they are a different connection so i cant get them fitted. Does anyone know how to overcome this problem? or has anyone upgraded their lights? Would like to hear your comments plz...hope that all makes sense! cheers

Hi, and welcome to the forum

The new LED lights won't work directly on a pre Sep 07 car, as a) the connector is different (as you've found out) and b) the resistance values have changed. Basically, if you change the connector (which isn't a difficult job) you'll find that the car will give you bulb error warnings because it sees a different resistance load in the LED bulb holder...

The way around that is to solder some resistors in line to change the resistance... not difficult to the technically minded, but annoying to say the least..!! If you want to pursue this route, send a PM to a member called Gizze, and he'll be able to help you.

Otherwise, a far easier option and one I suggest is for you to keep the standard bulb holder fitting you've already got, but change the yellow bulb to a LED-type festoon bulb... Contact Teddy at www.SSDD-Motorsports.com for details of which bulb to use...
