When to change brake pads?

Generally, what's the rule of thumb when it comes to changing OEM brake pads? I don't do any tracking, just daily driving.

Say once a year maybe?

Please chime in

TIA

rule of thumb is to change the brakes when the pad gets to be the same thickness as the backing plate of the pad.

So I guess I'll just have to check periodically? Maybe this is a good time......LOL

You should have a brake service indicator.

uhh......Should I solely rely on that, or change them before the indicator comes on??

BTW, I didn't know there's an indicator for brake service, guess I should

LOL

Take it to the dealer each time the brake service indicator asks, and them you get them for free! if you ask to change before the car says to change you will likely have to pay for the pads

I believe the service limit for brake pad is 3mm thickness but i could be mistaken. this is just anecdotal advice, not something i read in the service manual

I see.......I think I'll just do that since my car is still under warranty. I was just curious about the difference in margin of when the light comes on versus the actual wear-n-tear of the pads.

But thanks for the tip.
