PROcede CANbus Dynos: After Misfire Fixed

As promised I redynoed my car after diagnosing and fixing the misfire from last week original post and dynos found here: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=248651

Video Update:

The PROcede piggyback delivered as promised: +86whp/+87wtq

I am a very happy customer (I also found out on a stretch of closed highway that the speed delimiter works)

Vehicle Information:
-2008 E90 335i MT, 5k miles
-PROcede CANbus Stg 1 Maps
-BMS DCI & MFD Scoops
-94 Octane Sunoco
-64-65 degrees F, 29.79 in-Hg, 8% Humidity
-Correction: STD for comparison purposes

Here is the breakdown of the 5 runs (2-3 mins wait between first 4 runs, 5 mins wait between runs 4 and 5):
-Run1: Valet Mode (Essentially Stock) 284/296
-Run2: Stg1 Doomsday 2-19 Map @ 90% User Torque 359/370
-Run3: Stg1 Doomsday 2-19 Map @ 60% User Torque 322/339
-Run4: Stg1 Doomsday 2-19 Map @ 90% User Torque 357/367 (Verifies Repeatability)
-Run5: Stg1 Non-DD 3-24 CANbus Beta Map @ 100% User Torque 370/383

-After 5 dyno runs BT scan showed no engine codes

Thanks to Cincyspeed for the dynos, Tischer BMW for the ign coil, and Shiv@Vishnu for providing a great product.

The 400whp mark is not too far off, actually too bad that its so close I may just have to drop the $ to get it just to joint the club.

nice numbers!

where did you find a "closed" stretch of highway to go those speeds?

I can't wait!!! 40 more lbs of torque down low!! Nice.

Is 94 octane good enough to run 100% on PROcede? Where's the 3-24 canbus at 90%

Impressive! Thanks for sharing.

Ohio seems to be quite unpopulated compared to the SF Bay Area where I used to be from: lots of closed stretches of highway out here or maybe I just tested it in my imagination.

I also happened to kill a Lexus IS-F on this stretch of highway as well, and yes he was trying since he was at my rear bumper for most of this speed delimiter test (You gotta test it out, if it didn't work I'd ask Shiv for my money back)

Great info. Thanks for all the effort! By the way, if you have it handy, what was the ignition coil part number? Also, why did you go to 100% user tQ on 94 octane? I did not think that was recommended? Did you monitor boost during the dyno runs?

Ign Coil BMW #12137571643

I tried 100% user torque just as a glory run but also to see if this would throw any codes since its a NonDD map which it did not. I did not hear that this was not recommended maybe Shiv can chime in on when to and when not to use 100% user torque.

I did not monitor boost during the runs probably something I should do next time. I think the numbers look pretty typical of my type of tune some I expected boost values to be on target.

you'd probably end up losing power trying to run 100% torque settings... long story short, unless you're running straight 100-104 race gas... you don't want to turn the settings to 100% (on the normal map)

Thanks for the tip I'll be sure to run different settings next time I'm out to optimize power. Althought next time out I might have a stg2 or stg3 car. The hunt for 400whp begins.

FWIW, I didn't touch the torque settings to get my 398whp/422wtq numbers on 93 octane. I also didn't have time to test out anything higher, but if anything i wasn't gonna go any higher than 92-94ish %

I did not bother trying to get them to replace the coil under warranty since I was able to diagnose the problem myself and the part was ~$50 and would require me to uninstall my tune to take it in. The misfire only occured under high boost conditions such as a piggyback tune going from ~8 psi to ~15 psi is a significant increase. I did not encounter a misfire from JB+ either.

Congrats.. those numbers look great. You'll have to let me know your secret 'Mexico' location for extended runs in Ohio.

Your car rocks. Great numbers from Saturday, kick ass, not too mention that both you and Curt2000 are great guys. I really enjoyed the day and wish the others could have made it. Hopefully next time, which I hope is soon, i2istudios, Johnnymu and the others from the Cincy area can partake, it really was a good experience.

The only problem now is that I am really considering the upgrade to the PROcede Canbus? I was all locked in for the JB3 (Terry and BMS are really great, and the JB3 is just awesome) but now I am torn?!? Maybe Shiv can sway me?? Great tune and great numbers. Although the mighty little JB+ did represent.

ps - Glad to hear the story about the IS-F, considering the sales guy from Lexus is still all over me for that car, he thinks it would rape a 335i, tuned or not. So much for that f'ed up theory!

Again, thanks for all the information.

The current user torque setting description in Shiv's documentation just shows,

"User Torque Map1
This parameter defines the power output level of Map1. At 0%, the tuning features are essentially disabled and performance will run at stock-like boost levels. At 100%, maximum theoretical performance gains are induced and boost pressures will be maximized. We suggest leaving the default value of 90% alone. Running too high of a User Torque level on pump gas can result in poor performance and, at worse, possible engine damage. 0-100%"

from: http://www.vishnutuningforum.com/for...ead.php?t=1002

Discussions about version 3.2

"Fuel octane: What would be the recomended value to set, If I wanted one map to run 91 and the other to run 93-94?

Same. You could run another 2-3% if you want to eeek out every little bit of horsepower the extra octane is capable of supporting. Or you could just leave it alone. Shiv"
from: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...&postcount=142

"The default is 90% which leaves a little room to go up in case you are running race gas." from: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...&postcount=104

Discussions about version 2.0.2

I and others remember other discussions way back for Version 2.0.2 where Shiv said to stop at 94% user torque on 93 octane. The problem is it may not be valid any longer. Not sure.

"Run 186-187 was with User TQ settings raised to 94%. Power easily climbed to 378-379whp. 93oct guys should stop here at 94%."

Say you paid $279 for the JB+, the upgrade to JB3 PnP is a whopping $300. And we can ship with the latest 1.3 beta maps. Do a few dyno runs and see how it stacks up!

I suppose I could upgrade my JB+ and get JB3 1.3 Beta and see what my car does on the dyno and compare it to V3 CANbus but I think I will just continue pressing onward and go for a FMIC and DPs.

I believe that V3 and JB3 get similar results but what sold me on V3 as far as features is concerned was the on the fly map switching, speed delimiter, and CANbus integration.

Mike@N54 I am looking at AR DPs as my number one choice!

Whoo hoo! Glad to hear everything is working like it should. You didn't see the misfire problem with the Jb+ because it didn't make enough power to blow out the spark on the compromised coil. It actually looks like you can run a more aggressive tune than you are based up on how consistent and smooth your graphs are.

In the very near future, we will have a CANbus feature that will allow you juice up your current map depending on conditions, octane and set-up
