Clutch Shudder/Chatter

Hey yall,

I did a search but I guess I just need advice not really info. I took my car in for some clutch shudder during takeoff, and they said I have two options.

1. They take out the clutch, and if there is any wear, it will not be covered under warranty. (Cost 2k)

2. There is no wear, and it will be covered.

Now I know a decent amount of people have had this problem, and it is NOT a CDV issue for me because I do HAVE the modified cdv.

So my question is, do I risk having them take it out?? I dont really drive too hard or ride the clutch. Ive done a few launches but not often at all. Maybe I should take it to another dealer? Thanks in advance!!

Tim

A few observations. You didn't list the mileage on your car, or how old it is. The dealer's terms are a bit vague because as soon as you use the clutch is will have wear on it. Do they mean abnormal wear? Also, you have the CDV modified, as soon as they find that out all warranty bets are off.

My car started having a clutch chatter issue at around 15K. It was intermittent and now at 77K miles barely ever happens. I think it has to do with launch technique. I think there is a spot in the rev band that if you launch at too low RPM the driveline binds up and really starts to move around in the support bushings. I mentioned it on a service appointment and basically got the "no problem found, customer can replace clutch at his own cost" answer. I think your clutch is fine.

Ah yeah my bad. It has 21k on it. And yes I think they are talking about abnormal wear, because like you said it will have to have some wear on it right? I guess my best bet is just to let it go for a while and see if it gets better!
