335i At The Track. Tips?
I am going to be taking my car to the track soon and this is the first non manual car that i have owned. I have a step and was wondering if i could get some tips on getting the best times out of my car. I am not sure what mode i should have the car in. I also have no idea how to do a burn out in the car. I have never really been able to smoke up the tires. Seems like the car always just studders and then cuts loose. I tried taking off the dsc by just pushing it and also by holding it for a few seconds and even then still no smoke or squeel. I am coming over from an e46 m3 and as soon as you take off the dsc and step on it you are free to smoke your tires or do donuts. Bit of a challenge in this car for me.
Any tips? Sorry yes i am a newb, this is a serious question. Please no flaming lol |

Do you know there is two modes for the DTC/traction control? The first is like your cousin, she's not gonna nag at any little thing, but she slows things down when you are getting out of control. It's kind of 1/2 off. That's when you push the DTC button and it says DTC.
If you want your drunken uncle Billy to come out, you push and hold the button until the exclamation mark "!" comes on and stays on... (about 5 seconds). This is, as far as I know, full on Hooligan mode. Just press ther gas, hold the brake until the revs hit 2500 rpm, then off the brake and drop the hammer on the gas. This= smoky burnouts. 0000OOOOOOO0000OOO()()0()) |

You're not going to get great burnout since there's no LSD.
The problem with the step is, if you put it in sport mode, you get the ultra twitchy throttle that's almost impossible to modulate. You could leave it in regular mode and shift yourself, but the car may go back into auto mode at a bad time and down shift sooner if you have a straight or leave it in the same gear for a few minutes.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."
