Xenon headlight retrofit

I love my E91 tourer which has loads of good extras but I do wish it had the OEM xeons fitted. How much work is it to retrofit these, is it just a case of buying new headlamp units or is there alot more to it than that?

Suggest you search the forum as there are many threads on this UK and US.

Long and short of it...

It will cost you over £1k in parts
Car will need to be recoded as the new headlamps will throw up errors
Needs auto level adjusters to meet MOT standards = ££££
Needs headlight wash to meet MOT standards = ££££

It will become more hassle and ££££ than its worth I'm afraid.

Damn, not what I wanted to hear Never mind, I'm not particulary interested in the xenons but I do like the look of the angel eyes which are part of the design, all of the aftermarket lamps look naff IMHO. Does anyone knoe if the LCI halogen headlamps have angel eyes? i wonder if they would fit?

Yes, LCI halogens do have angel eyes.

Roofer, a member on here did it to his E90, he might be along later, when he gets up.

Thanks for the replies, I have to say that I am leaning towards the LCI Halogens with angel eyes rather than the xenons and the trouble with making them MOT legal. I've read that the indicators are LED which affects the bulb failure warning on the dash. I'm sure there will be a way of fooling that though.

If you want it done professionally, contact Ant (Ant397 on the forum) at Speed Religion (http://shop.speedreligion.net/) as they have done a xenon conversion on a E90.

I'm sure he will give you an indication of price and what's involved

Realistically there is no way of getting it 100% legal although if you use OEM lamp units the MOT tester is unlikely to notice although they are tightening up on this. To be legal it needs headlamp washers (which you may already have, depending on model) and electronic self-levelling, which you certainly won't.

Whatever you do, do not fit HID bulbs into the halogen "Mr Kipling" reflectors as the light scatter is very bad - you must use a projector lens.

The HID bulbs in halogen lenses are crap. I had some, found the lighting was slightly brighter but less focused. They also failed after 12mths. It should be an easy job removing bulbs but it aint. Trust me you don't want to be doing it more than once.
