CD/MP3CD Skipping

Hey everyone, I think there was a thread on this before, but my CDs and MP3 CDs are always skipping, it will start to play a song, and then when the car decides it'll just change the song in the middle. It becomes really frustrating, and its to the point where I'd rather not have the car play the CD at all, then partially play it. Is anyone else getting this? I have the iDrive, and I think its pretty stupid to include a setting that doesn't work 100%. I've had MP3-CD players that worked better then this

And to skip all the questions, its a brand new cd, its not scratched, nothing is wrong with the actualy cd itself.

yeah im experiencing the same exact thing even burning at 4x. it pisses me off sometimes cuz right when im really enjoying a song, it'll go to the next track automatically. i'm gonna try to burn my next mp3 cd on a different computer to see if it will make a difference. i have i-drive btw and just got my car like a month ago.

I've never had any music CD's skip on me ever. However, MP3 CD's would skip over medium bumps. When it skips, it usually just skips to the next song. I have stopped playing MP3 CD's because of the skipping issues.

However, if your regular music CD's are skipping, you should get your CD player replaced.

I've burned a ton of MP3's onto several different types of media (TDK, Verbatim LightScribe, others) in at least 2 different burners, always at 48x speed, with zero issues. I have a disc in the car right now packed with about 130 songs ripped at 192k, it's a bonzanza, way more music at hand than even a full 6-disc changer w/conventional CD's. BTW I use Nero Ultra 7 to burn and CDex to rip from source.

Seems that a lot of people are having skipping problems.. could there be that many bad/marginal head units out there, or are other factors at work? Hopefully you guys find a fix soon.

Maybe Arizona roads are smooth as butter but in Illinois, they are filled with potholes and cracks. Shitty roads = more MP3's skipping.

The roads here are good - as long as you can avoid the flying rocks and giant tire carcasses littering the freeways this time of year.

I've hit some nasty bumps and still never had a single skip on my MP3 discs. Either I'm lucky or you guys have some funky hardware somewhere in the food chain.

I have this problem too. The skipping is unrelated to road bumps - it's happened to me several times even when the car is parked.

Sorry, no solution...I have exactly the same problem - and we have very smooth roads!! It is very strange, as it will skip a song halfway through, like there is something wrong with the MP3 file. If I then go back to the exact same song right afterwards, it plays it perfectly!

I'd be interested to know the version difference of the BMW software for people's MP3's that work and those that don't work (for those folks that have Idrive)? Could someone with a faultless system post pics of the software versions?

Good question.. I'm non-iDrive. Seems to me I read somewhere that the mf'r of the 2 head units is NOT the same for iDrive vs. non-iDrive. The non is made by Alpine I believe, and HK for the other.. can anyone confirm?
