LA BMWCCA Chapter AutoX Pics - 04/26/09

Just a few for now. The rest I'll post up later in the week. Thanks to those who attended today. I'm seeing more and more e9x come out to play, ( as it should be ), but the Club could always use more participants (and help).

Great job with the pics! Thank you very much for all your help yesterday!

Here are the pictures from my camera. The shots from the auto-x are courtesy of you and I really appreciate that!

I think all-in-all it was a successful event. Again, thank you for helping make it so!

Despite Kim's comments of almost catching it. From the video, there was NO WAY you were going to catch it.

When you do "Catch and Release" with the stearing wheel, you will only be "LUCKY" to save a spin if you do. You need to keep contact with the wheel at all times. If you don't, you can't make the lightning fast corrections needed to keep the car pointed in the right direction.

How did my hand work look leading up to my off? The course design was such that I had to shuffle steer in about 3 places on course. It was a horrible feeling having my hands at 9 and 3 then giving it all he wheel I could and that not being enough. Also, this was my last run of the day, a "giggle run".

That was as well run of an autocross in L.A. as I've seen. Seems like this "new" guy they have organizing has been doing it for years.

By the way, YOU don't get enough kudos for putting on the event 2e9x's. Hope you're not too BURNT-OUT to put on another one.

Satakal, from a Monday morning arm-chair "instructor's" perspective, your "spin" started two turns ago, you just didn't realize it. Looks to me like you blew your turn-in on the slow-speed right hander that left you off-line at the exit, and from there on the spin 2 turns later was inevitable.

If you want some friendly advice, when you made that mistake on the right-hander you need to gather yourself, give up some speed and get back on line. Often times on an auto-cross course (actually, same goes for the track), a mistake does not manifest itself until 2-3 turns later and by that time the mistake has compounded on itself and becomes impossible to correct.

I don't know if my esteemed collegue Kim and 325racer agrees, but the opportunity to catch that spin, in my not so humble opinion, was 2 turns ago.

Thanks Mr. The_HACK. I'm always looking for driving advice. Your input sounds right on. The hardest part is applying it.

I don't think my ego cares too much but I, on occasion, am capable of driving cleaner laps. I just like to share the error filled ones because they're hilarious to me. And, fast/clean laps are just boring. I mean, we never hear any giggling or obsenities in S4to335's stuff.

Thanks man. FYI - I asked Satakal to delibiteraly show me some sideways action so I could shoot some pics of it, just for fun. And he delivered .

Of course, I don't normally condone this type of driving at an AutoX, but it was just about the last run and it was a bonus, non-timed one too.

Thank you VERY much for the kind words! I really enjoyed watching everybody have fun. We made the course a bit wider and faster so people could play around a bit more.

And as I said in my e-mail to the instructors we simply could not have these events without you! Thank YOU all very much for coming and helping the students improve. As you saw we had probably 90% novices and it was great watching them grow as drivers under your guidance!

Added the original to the gallery - I took about 4 snaps of you and they were all in several forms of blurry - perhaps you were too fast for me!
