the guy at the bmw dealer gave me an mp3 cd with 100 songs..it's like a bmw cd deal with jazz, rock, etc. I dont understand how that can hold 100 songs... when i try everything i can and the cd i have can only hold 80 min..can someone explain..im confused

When you are burning a disc from your computer you need to select the option that says mp3 disc. Basically it does not burn the cd with the normal format that all cd players use, instead leaves it in mp3 format. Since its copying a mp3 file, it only goes based on space, i.e 6megs a song in mp3 format, 700mb disc = 116 tracks. The number of tracks will vary depending on the size of the mp3 files you are burring, larger size mp3 files = less tracks and smaller size mp3 files = more tracks.

i may be reading your post incorrectly, but an mp3 cd and a mix cd are different. the cd the dealer gave you contains music that is compressed. a cd that you are trying to make is just a regular mix cd. if you compress your music you will be able to fit just as many songs if not more. i can further explain your question if you tell me how many songs you are able to put on your 80 minute cd.

Basically, what you are talking about is the difference between a MUSIC disc (which is just a regular CD you buy at a record store) and a DATA disc.

The MP3 discs are NOT standard Music CD's. They are nothing more than DATA discs, like any regular CD data disc that people use on a computer.

The new CD Players in Cars can read BOTH the regular old Music CD's and the new MP3 Data Discs.

So, Music Discs have a maximum of 80 Minutes (700MB Disc) since the music is not compressed, so each song file is very large.

On MP3 Data Discs, each song file is very small (there IS a loss of quality) and THAT is why you can get over 100 three to four minute songs on each disc. And, if you make an MP3 DVD, you can get about 1,000 songs. Amazing.

Most CD burning programs have a MUSIC setting and a DATA DISC setting. You have to choose the DATA DISC setting and drag your MP3 files to the burning program and then burn the disc.

Or over a 1000 high quality (a relative term in this case) 256 or 320kbs MP3s on a DL DVD to play in the Nav slot.

No difference.

I recently made a disc with about 130 of my favorite songs, ripped at 192k. To my not-so-anal ear, 192k sounds VERY VERY close to native CD format, so this is a bonanza - the equivalent of about 2 CD changers FULL of music on 1 disc. Now I need to upgrade my Scirocco to a head unit that's MP3-compatible.
