Anyone's radio not turn on???
Not really looking for allot of responses here, but my car, which currently has a whopping 670 miles on the odo, had a glitch last week that freaked me out.
I got in the car, began driving home after work, and the radio wouldn't turn on. I must have hit the button a 100 times, and nothing. This is my 3rd e90, so I know what I'm doing, and to be honest, I was really disappointed. The time and date appeared on the display like it normally would without being turned on, but no stereo power (I have Logic 7, not that this matters). I called my dealer (Bavarian, in Rochester Hills) who was incredibly helpful, but had never heard of anything like it on an e90, or for that matter an 09. I pulled over after a few minutes to restart the car, and again, nothing. I parked in my garage at about 6pm, and I went out again at about 8pm, and still nothing. The next morning - fired right up and worked perfectly. I've had no problems since. I've had good luck with BMW's in the past, and I'm hoping this was a one time only issue, but I still get a little anxious every time I hit that power button for the first time when I get in my car!!! |

I had that happen to me too, I turned it off, waited a few minutes... ejected the CD... turned it back on again and it worked. I had no idea it work though, I was just troubleshooting. Happened once and hasn't happened again.

For the 08 and earlier, if this happens on an iDrive vehicle, holding CD eject, DVD eject, and radio power resets iDrive and will fix fluke issues like this.

3 weeks after I got my car, it happened to me. It actually happened every time I folded my rear seats down (but it took a while before I figured it out).
Dealer found a defective power/audio(?) cable that runs from the trunk to the radio (at least that's what I've been told). After they replaced it, everything works normal. Try folding and unfolding your rear seats to see if the problem appears/reappears. Hope this helps a little.

Last post is almost certainly an issue with the MOST junction block behind the rear seat. That's the fiber optic junction connector which loops various components through the optical loop including the stereo amp. Sounds like a fiber was loose on that connector, and whenever the rear seat was folded, it kept the fiber loop from completing. Makes perfect sense, and a pretty easy fix once you know what to look for.

Thanks guys. I read that also about holding the eject buttons, but I don't have idrive. I also don't have the folding seat option either (!). Just a fluke hopefully, but still disconcerting nonetheless. Oh well, life goes on.......

happened to me 7 times already. Same thing that's happening to you. It's like a glitch that happens from time to time and when it does, no matter what you press, it won't turn on. I went to my dealer (Rallye westbury, LI) for it twice and the first time, they replaced the whole radio unit. Few days later, it happened again. Went back and SA told me it's prbably a bug on the current software. He just told me that when BMW gets a software update then he'll give me a call back. It's almost 3 months now, and it never happened again.

just happened to me this morning.. that's the second time it's ever happened after a break of a couple months. Pretty annoying. Post #10 makes me think there is no fix for this yet.
edit:just noticed other, bigger thread.... future posters should post there. (see post #11 in this thread for the link) |

This happened to me as well on my 06 330i multiple times. Eventually the radio never turned back on and no volume from any format, turned out to be the amplifier. Its located on the rear left hand side in the trunk. Went to the dealership and the Logic 7 amplifier ran me anywhere from $450 to $700. Use that as an excused to buy myself an aftermarket head unit, with a sub in the back.

I started a thread about this problem too.
It has happened to me twice now. The most recent was this past weekend. No matter what I did, the radio would not turn on. After about 1 hr into driving, the radio turns on all of a sudden. It was quite disconcerting because it happened while driving on the highway. I called my dealer and he told me they will take a look at it. The MP3/CD player never worked from day one so hopefully, they will replace the entire unit. My car is only 2 months old BTW. |

My radio turned off several times after long time listening at high volumes. I turned the radio off, waiting a few minutes, and turned it back on. Everything started to work again.

logic 7 problem
I have the Logic 7 happened to me twice. Took it to the dealer immediately the second time so they did not say could not reproduce the problem. They have ordered a new radio for the car. Hope that fixes it. Car is awesome but the stereo has been a big disappointment.
