Best trunk subwoofer for E90

What is the best single subwoofer (12'') to put in the trunk of a E90 to accompany the Logic 7 sound system?

This is a silly question. There are more good drivers on the market than the market can support in this economy, and the answer depends more on you than the car.

There are 12" woofers out there which are hard to blow up and which are good at playing bass-heavy program material, and JL is probably one of those. If you listen to jazz and folk, you will hear the shortcomings of those woofers pretty clearly, even though you may find people on this forum who rave about it.

But a 12" which is skilled at playing the latter material may shred itself when playing 50 Cent.

Wouldn't a good subwoofer be able to accommodate all types of music?

I mis-spoke. It is not too silly of a question. It presumes the world is simpler than I believe it is, but I shouldn't have called it "silly" - my apologies.

I'm pretty sure you mean "be appropriate for" and to that question my answer is No. A perfect subwoofer would.

A good subwoofer, in my 20+ years of experience in car audio, does SOMETHING well. A GREAT subwoofer does many things well. But music - in particular, musical tastes, genres, and preferences in this day and age - vary so greatly that your question is much harder to solve than you would expect.

There are subs that do everything great in a box that doesn't fit in the trunk. There are subs that do everything great if connected to an amp the size of Boulder Dam.

But a subwoofer which is great with an amp and system you can and wish to afford, which will work in an enclosure which will leave enough room for you in the trunk (you a golfer?), and which will be durable as well as musical - tat is a function of many variables.

I make things simpler. I don't listen to any rap or hip-hop, and I listen to jazz, rock, folk, and the like, with a lot of acoustic drums. Snappy, fast bass that sounds real and is "high-fidelity" is a knotty enough problem for me to solve.

But this IS America. So rock on.

I listen to a lot of types of music like house, hip hop, rock, metal, jazz, chillout, trance, etc.. and I am personally interested in the JL subwoofers.

Look into Diamond Audio
JL Audio
Image Dynamics

These will provide what you want without breaking the bank, unless you are talking about their high end lines..

I just think this will be enough for me for now. I am considering upgrading later.

A lot of the subwoofers are not well compatible with the Logic 7 sound system and are solely made for purposes of competition. I believe that a 300-500 watt 12'' subwoofer in a sealed box.

Cost me $200 for the sub, $350 for the enclosure. Being pushed by a Rockford P4 400 watt amp under the rear decklid.

I love it!

The enclosure is more important than the sub driver itself, and the guy that made it probably didn't make any money. Custom shops in the US routinely charge $500 and up for similar enclosures.

I thought it was a bit nutty, as in, too cheap...
