I'd just search reviews for hard-disk/flash based cameras ... I tend to like Canon. If you want top consumer quality, expect to pay $1000-$1400 ... or, if you just want something for spur-of-the-moment shots that aren't high-res, I suggest one of these:

I just bought a Canon HF 20 and it seems to be a decent video cam. It has 32 GB flash build in and a SD slot.

HFS10 is a more baller version of the HF10/20

HUGE 8MP size sensor in it and really nice lens, 58mm thread on the front of it for filters and lens adapters.
