My first Idrive problem, FROZEN

Today i had my first major issue with the idrive/nav, it is stuck on the ACCEPT screen and nothing seems to work. After searching around here it seems others have had this problem as well. I will try to reset (eject button + radio power)the system later if it continues frozen. I hope this fixes it and it is a one time thing, if not the car will be in for its first service check up. My software version is rather new since the car was picked up in Munich at the end of April and at VPC in late May. Any advice, is there more up to date software since April?

make a note of it, write down what you were doing, what was on the screen...etc, and keep a log, next time you bring it in, just show them the log

I did let the car sit and tried numerous times starting...waiting , turning off waiting ,,,,starting again, still frozen......Waited over 20 minutes drove around still frozen, etc......Then, let the car sit for a few hours, Now its back to normal and I'm hoping it does not occur again. I will take it in if it happens again and I'm writing down what happened/when so I can track it if it comes up again.

No actually you can reboot it...call your dealer he should be able totell you what to do......sorry my buddy had to do his it's something to do the radio and the MD player

Had the same problem. Pushing the iDrive knob did nothing to ACCEPT the ridiculous warning and the knob would only spin, no resistance like it usually has.

I tried turning the car off and restarting without success. I, too, left it to sit for about forty minutes without success. I then went to a pub for dinner and it worked fine.

I've had the iDrive do a reboot while driving, too, but that was only once.

My car was built in December 2005.

If anyone knows how to reboot it, please let us all know for future reference.

from what I've read here, idrive has the reboot equivalent to "ctrl+alt+delete"on a computer. for idrive you hold down the radio power button and the 2 eject buttons(cd and dvd) at the same time. I havent tried it yet and hope I never need too. I was about to do it last night but when I went to the car to test the idirve it was working again.

Try the reboot next time... I know its not what you want to do, but sometimes it is necessary...

I just installed an amp and sub to my car. and after the install, my car has the same problem as yours(SoYank). Stuck at accept screen and idrive knob has no resistance.. So how long did you wait before it started to work again? did u find out what causes this? and is there anyway to fix it? im freaking out here, i don't want bmw to void my warranty cuz if i bring it back to them, they will blame it on the addition of an amp and void my audio warranty and stuff.

First off, I've done no mods to the electrical system. At the pub I mentioned the car was off for a bit over a hour.

i left it off for over 8 hours and still didn't work, i ended up bringing it to a shop that fixes bmw. costed me $80 canadian dollars, the guy said he had to plug in a computer to reset my whole idrive. At least its fixed now and my bmw dealer doesn't know.

so after the problem I posted here about a week ago no problems with idrive again.....until today!!!! while driving listening to radio, the idrive crashed with no reason or warning whatsoever, the display went black for about 45 seconds and radio off/idrive gone, then the BMW screen came on for about 30 seconds, then the accept sceen. I hit accept and again working normally. This is second time in a week a idrive problem, I will have to address this next time I am by my dealer.

I had to reset (holding down the cd + dvd eject button and press the radio power on) the idrive to make it work.

Mine does that quite a lot (except I don't get the Accept screen, as I'm in the UK) - driving along, it'll all just give up and restart. It's usually pretty quick coming back to the home screen, but the date/time and radio station all display as -------- for a few minutes before they come back.

If only Apple made an integrated operating system...
