Need help on what track car to get :)
Hey guys!
I need help on getting a track car but I dont know which one to get, so far the criteria i can think of is: 1. it should be rear-wheel drive 2. a good car to hone your driving skills 3. Has a great potential to be tuned So far my choices are narrowed down to the following: but if you can suggest something better, feel free to recommend a car ![]() 1. Honda S2000 2. BMW E30 325 3. Nissan S15 4. Toyota Supra 5. BMW E36 3xx 6. Toyota AE86 Thanks in advance! |

![]() Miata with out a doubt for a track toy. Very inexpensive to mod and maintain. I've seen them lap much more powerful and expensive cars. The Supra and S2000 will cost you a pretty penny to track. I cant really comment on the rest.

E36 BMW super reliable and can be made into a very fast track car for short money or you can spend a fortune for all the greats supper jammy parts you want. faster than a miata, much easier to get in and out of and a lot more substantial in case of a crash, miatas just scare mein that situation. unless were just talking about just autocross then the miata unquestioned.

forgot to mention that the E36 that i am considering is a 328 coupe, the E36 M3 is another option but it would cost twice as much here though (80-100%)

I chose S2000 off of your list, assuming nice car for the occasional track day. For more of a stripped out track car that sees little to no road time you can’t beat the Miata. There is tons of support from the aftermarket for the Miata, in the States there are spec Miata race classes, parts are cheap and a well driven Miata will embarrass some serious hardware. It will also make you a better driver, it is a momentum car so you will have to work on cornering technique instead of drag racing and standing on the brakes between corners. |

if you want an informed opinion, talk to your local bmwcca chief driving instructor. Or, any bmwcca instructor. Asking the "wise old internet" isn't the best place for answers on something as esoteric as learning to drive fast.
And anyone that said S2k has no idea what they're talking about. It may be a car that has potential to get faster when money is thrown at it, but it'll be a horrible learning car. ________ HAWAII MARIJUANA DISPENSARIES ________ Park Royal Pattaya Last edited by satakal; 09-13-2011 at 11:41 PM.. |

I vote Miata, unless your local tracks have an issue with convertibles, then I'd say a BMW E36. Unless you are talking about the drag strip, I wouldn't recommend a late model Supra.

I may be biased, but I'd choose an E30. Very easy car to track, handles well at the limit and fantastic feedback through the wheels. It will be slower in the straights comparatively to an S2000 but having driven both, the E30 is much easier to find and extort the limits of.

I don't see the point of having a car that a blind chimp could drive around a track quickly if your goal is to learn. Miata is a good choice also, though much easier to drive.

S2000... I had one, now I miss it to death, and I want another for a dedicated track car/weekend driver.
Now the real debate is... AP1 or AP2? ![]()
