I guess you are talking non-runflat?

I had goodyear eagle f1's on my 5 series and pirelli p zero neros. Pirellis gripped much better.

I now have continental sport contact 2's which are better than both of the above.

Think so - the tread pattern is the same anyway.

I bought my e60 second hand and it had the goodyears on the rear and pirellis on the front.

The goodyears broke traction quite a bit - for instance I could spin the back wheels if I accelerated hard from 20mph.

The pirellis have always gripped well and done their job - I've experienced hardly any understeer.

I had a puncture a few months back and swapped the goodyears for contis, which look really nice on my alloys. Plan was to swap the fronts once they had worn a bit, but as I am selling the car they will have to stay.

Anyway - the grip from the contis is vastly better than that from the goodyears.

Possibly it had to do with the amount of wear on the eagles? Most high performance tires turn to shit when they need to be replaced...

The grip in the rain is what really impressed me!

I love them, this is my second set.

I'm really looking forward to trying them out and being able to compare them to the Bridgestones on my car right now. Just have to wait for my wheels to arrive...

Way ....

The goodyears were partially worn - but still had a good 6mm of tread left. As I said my experience is that the contis grip significantly better.

These are on 19 inch rims 275/30/19 which may be a factor, plus this is on an e60 NOT an e90.

People, there are 7 different versions of the Goodyear "F1." Be specific.

The tyres I had were either 'goodyear eagle F1' or 'goodyear eagle F1 GSD3' the tread pattern is identical and from memory I cannot be entirely sure ....

But .... I have one in my garage (kept as a spare) - so I will look later on to see if I can see GSD3 on the sidewall.

GSD3 seems to be the replacement for the original model - so I guess it depends when my tyres were bought.

Part of your problem may simply be because you have different kind of tyres in front and in the back. They're not made to run together. Tyres are not simply tyres. When not matched sometimes you can get surprising behaviors.

I thought tyres were tyres ?

If they aren't tyres what are they ?

Anyway - I don't have a problem I just found the conti sport contacts grip better than the goodyear F1's.

I've checked at the goodyears were NOT the GSD3's so perhaps they are better than the conti's.

I understand your point on mixing brands and it wasn't my preference. I had intended to go with pirellis all round when the goodyears were trashed, but I needed tyres in a hurry after a puncture and the conti's were the only ones in stock.

275/30/19's are not easy to get in a hurry

In some ways though - it's not a bad thing. My rims are staggered - wider at the back than the front - which is good in terms of controlling torque and oversteer. By having a softer compound on the front (eg pirelli) than the back, and having the front slightly lower in the recommended psi range than the back, you might gain extra front end grip and hence limit high speed understeer

Some e60 owners have reported understeer when cornering at high speed. I haven't experienced this and my tyres may have helped. In my car the back pretty much always starts to squeal first then instead of understeer I experience a very gradual 4 wheel drift, which is easily corrected by easing back on he throttle.

Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3's are what I have and I would have to agree with HRC that the grip in the rain is great!!
