One of my good friends got his 650 waxed with Zymöl Destiny. It's 51% pure carnauba wax and the small container of it is around $2,000. His detail job was $450 and I just wanted to hear some feedback before I get my car Zymöl'ed. From what I understand, all off-the-shelf waxes are at most, 2-3% wax so it only lasts a few weeks, like two weeks at most. Cough, Meguiars.

I think I will save more time just going with Zymöl twice a year.

You can get there vintage glaze for $1800 and it comes with a lifetime refill supply.

As a recovering Zymolholic I say use Klasse AIO and SG. That combo protects better and lasts much, much longer. If you want added depth apply a carnauba wax on top of the SG.

Now that said, if you prefer to have someone else detail your cars and can afford to do so every coulpe of months, use a $2K wax.

When it comes to "high end" waxes there is a lot of subjective opinion and a lot of misinformation. I've personally used all but two of Zymols estate glazes and will give you some facts, then some opinion on them.

Facts: They do have a higher carnauba content than most waxes. Most OTC waxes have less than 1% carnauba; some boutique waxes available for under $100 have closer to 20% (Pinnacle Souveran, for example).

While having more carnauba might seem like a good thing it's not that simple; there are issues associated with having more than say, 10% canauba content, things like wax hardness, application and removal and of course aesthetics. More carnauba is GENERALLY better, but not always.

Having more carnauba *does not* mean a wax will last longer. In some cases they do, but there are waxes with low canauba content that will out last Zymol Estate Glazes by a long shot (Collinite 476S for example). The difference is durabilty AND looks. "Working waxes" like Collinite generally are less aesthetically pleasing, while beauty waxes like Souveran look great but will net you 4 weeks of duabilty on a good day. Estate Glazes are a combination of both.

LSPs are infinitely less important in terms of aesthetics than preperation, that's a fact. A swirled, oxidized, improperly prepared paint surface will not look good with a $2,000 wax applied. Waxes are protection first, aesthetic second. Make sure the detailer knows how to properly prepare the surface and you're willing to pay to have it dones. Using good products is great; however process is always, ALWAYS more important that product. That leads me to the subjective part:

Subjectives: Estate Glazes may or may not look better than other waxes. Some people swear they do, some people say that $20 nattys blue looks as good as $2,000 Atlantique. On a properly prepared surface (swirl free, haze free, oxidation free, etc...) 99/100 people would not be able to pick one from the other. Do I think there is a difference? Definitely; but I've been detailing cars for a really long time. I can tell the difference; is it worth $1,980? That depends on what your priorities are and how much money you have.

Now you mention saving time since Zymol will generally last you 6 months. OK, cool - however if durability is all your concerned with I would suggest strongly that you choose a sealant rather than a wax. Most sealants, regardless of their aesthetics, will last as long as or longer than most waxes; and they are an order of magnitude less expensive than Estate Glazes. Using Jeffs Werkstatt Acrylic Jett, Klasse HGSG, Zaino Z2, Poorboys EX-P, etc... will get you 6 months of durabilty easily, and each are under $25.

That said, I am not discouraging using the Zymols; it's just something you have to want and understand. There will be a subtle difference in look between a sealant and a wax; if you appreciate that difference go for it. If you don't, choose the sealant.

All of this said I would urge you to make sure the paint is swirl/scratch free and smooth before worrying at all about your wax or sealant. FAR too much talk goes into LSP product selection when what enthusiasts should be discussing is *process* and preperation.

You are correct that is not possible. What they mean when they say 100% pure is that the part of the wax that is actually carnuba (be it 1% or 50%) is pure carnuba. It is essentially semi-deceptive advertising. Pure carnuba is so hard it could not be spread onto a car, it must be split down with additives to make it soft enough to apply to a car.
