engine temperature

i posted a thread a while ago when my engine temp gauge on the performance steering wheel recorded 100 degrees when normally it is 83. this happened again yesterday, outside temp was 14 and the engine started at 83 but suddenly shot up to 98 and flashed between 98 and 101, then it dropped to 92 and moved constantly between 92 and 100. at normal driving speeds. i rang my dealer who suggested it could be leaves in the rad or the fan not working. cant be leaves as the last time this happened was about 3 weeks ago, since then its been normal. just wondering if its the car doing it or if there is a fault with the steering wheel gauge. any ideas?

I think its the actual Water temp mate ? (it is a water temp gauge right? not oil)

I heard it fluctuates like a fat mama's weight thats why they didnt include one standard on the 335d.

Sounds like an acceptable operating range for water temp.

its the constant and rapid rate of changes that concerns me, cant see any reason for it, but dont mind really so long as the steering wheel gauge is not faulty
