How much DEPOSIT is your dealer asking for ED car?

I am about to place my order this week sometime but my dealer is asking for $1500.00 non-refundable deposit on the car. So far he has not been very responsive to my requests and I am worried this guy will get lazy on me after he receives his $$$. But overall price I am getting is $1K over dealer invoice?

Is he trying to make up his $1K and $500 actual deposit? What do you guys think? Is $1500 non refundable too much of a deposit?

Thanks.

FWIW, $1500 deposit does not sound unreasonable to me. I would think it would be refundable, though, except in cases where you act in bad faith (and maybe even then).

$1.5K non-refundable is kind of steep,

Typical is between 500 and $1000 and here in CA the deposit is fully refundable.

I paid $1000.00 totally refundable because an ED car does not take away from the dealers normal allotment.

Deosit amount can vary from Dealer to Dealer.Any deposit should be fully refundable and if a dealer tells you otherwise, find a reputable dealer

You chaps have it lucky. I had to lay out a £2000 non-refundable deposit to order my new 330i msport.

Not only that but it's going to cost me £32,000 compared to £3.50 or whatever it costs in the states!

Gah

I paid $0 deposit. Unless you are ordering a unusual combination, ask them why they need a deposit. If they say its to make sure you are serious, then tell them that you are serious and you don't let just anyone run your credit.

At this point it really doesn't matter..... I paid the $1500 as I am not expecting to ask for my money back or anything.... I got the production # and everything is a go for Munich delivery around 2nd week of Oct!

Overall, I am ok with this deposit since I did not order the car through most regular ways......

Thanks for all the responses guys & girls!
