They have to - the mustang can't even get close to competing w/ the new camaro... I think the V6 in the Mustang makes 215hp? lol...

Good for Ford if they can make the same power with over a liter less displacement. Should be good for MPG.

I don't think the V6 Stang can go up against the Camaro V6, but the V8 Mustang holds it's own pretty well for being down 100HP to the Camaro SS. I think the SS was only .2 seconds faster to 60 when Motor Trend compared them. The Mustang also handled very well when compared against the SS, especially for having old tech like a live rear axle.

![]() Anyway, I think the current 4.0 V6 will be replaced by the 3.5 V6 rated at 250-270hp found in Ford Taurus/Fusion/Edge. That engine doesn't have direct injection but once it will get it, it will be rated at above 300hp ![]() If you want more info on that engine, click Duratec V6

Mighty powerful engine for the Stang, I hope they also loss some body weight in the process.

No need to. It is already a few hundred pounds lighter in GT form than a SS Camaro. That is the only reason the GT can keep close to the SS in terms of performance.

It's really not that close right now. The Camaro opens up a 5 car length gap in the 1/4 mile, and the trap speeds isn't even close. The live axle on the Mustang makes for a good launch, but the Camaro just murders it once they're rolling. On a track or a street start the Camaro will just walk away from the Ford. It should be a better race with the new engine, but I seriously doubt the Mustang will be significantly faster. Also, you never know what GM's got up their sleave with the LSx motors. Quote:

Adding ~30% more horsepower to the Mustang should make a difference. How much we won't know until someone can test one, but I don't think Ford is going to go down without a few punches.

A 5.0 Mustang with the Track Pack should be pretty sweet. The 4.6 with the track pack already has almost identical performance #'s to the 135i and the 370z. Another 85 hp should help that out a bit and help it beat a Camaro straight line or around a track... That being said, I'd still rather have the Camaro.

You know, I have yet to see a post from you that isn't completely ignorant rude and moronic. Are you 12? There's no talking to you because you're simply too stupid and closed minded to listen.

I'm still a sucker for mpg. CarandD's comparo had them averaging 14mpg for the SS and 17mpg for the Mustang. Keep in mind the Ford runs on regular fuel. The SS runs on premium. Draw your own conclusions.
