Chrome tail-pipe cleaning?

My chrome tail-pipes have baked on black stuff on them that doesn't come off easily.

What is the best product to use to bring the shiny chrome finish back to life?

hey..u canadian? anyways, you can use some chrome cleaner...its a little abrasive but it removes the black stuff pretty good...otherwise u can get a toothbrush and scrub at it...its just soot from the exhaust

Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser :rofl

Seriously though, try alcohol, then a metal polish.

+1 metal polish. I only use soap and water but I also wash every week to avoid any buildup.

Haha... I haven't cleaned the pipes for almost a year and there was no way soap and water would have cut it. Toothbrush + ScratchX (paint polish) didn't do squat.

Scratched, but clean pipes are better than black pipes.

They are just exhaust pipes. I don't really care whether they are scratched up or not.

Comet Scratch Free Disinfectant Cleanser with Bleach

Hahaha. I don't think it is scratch free, but that's what it says on the container.

Just used some of the Meguiars metal polish paste to clean up my 320d's exhaust. It's not chrome, but the shine is astounding!

Get a mothers polish ball, put some metal polish on the pipes and inside and just shove the ball in the pipe and go too town. Then do the out side. Comes out great. Looks brand new.

I order my supplies through Top of the Line Detailing.
http://www.topoftheline.com/index.html

Lot of people get their supplies from autogeek.net too.
But I noticed that you mention it's been over a year, so I'm not sure if the P21S polishing soap will work.

I wash the car every week and use the polish every other wash.

if you can't easily wash it off, just buy a pair of new chrome tips from the dealer!

I dont know the right name but the petrolium used in lanterns is a superior and safe cleaner. It doesn't harm paint or crome and cleans with ease! I have used it for years remowing chain lube from my motorcycles rear wheel and tough dirt from the tip of the exhaust.
