The satellite pre-wire is available but extremely rare unless you ordered a custom optioned car from factory, I've been told our 2006 models don't come standard with it nor do dealers spec it for "generic" built cars. I ordered my car on Saturday and at the time the dealer was already out of 2006 allocation spots so they found one for me identical to what I wanted but without satellite pre-wire. Thats ok...I much prefer XM over Sirius anyway.

I ordered Sirius pre-wire last July and the car came without it anyway.
So I went to the States and am using the XM radio with my Mom's US address. That's what I recommend, Canadian content isn't as good as the US, if you like sports talk and news. Run a search and you'll see what others have done with aftermarket installations here....they run mild to wild!

Then see post #4. I really think it is touch and go in Canada.
Happy that you already have US Sirius then! What I enjoy about the E90 is that there is an Aux Jack in the cubby under the armrest and a lighter plug. So that way I plug my Sky Fi Aux Out and it's adapter for power into that. Yah, it's messy, but I guess I had to make do. I agree, the FM transmitter thing is a drag.

The must have option 693 Satellite Pre-Wire. Contact your selling dealer and give them your VIN number; they can check the build code on the car. If the car has the pre-wire option, you're good to go. The module is not officially available through BMW Canada yet but a US unit will work. You can activate the unit through SIRIUS Canada so a US address is not required. The only Canadian channel missing is the Weather Network (channel 185). If you activate on a US address you'll recieve all 129 US channels (compared to 110 in Canada).
I have the US module in my car activated using a Canadian address and everything works like a charm. If your car does not have the pre-wire option, there is a really good thread in this forum on how to install the unit. If you have any questions, let me know. |

Thanks...that helps. What I am really lookin for is the hardwired in option to select SAT (like AM/FM, AUX, CD, SAT) NOT the SIRIUS unit I bought at best buy. I know in the 07 models they will have it in, but not sure on the 06 - or maybe youve just told me and Im just not getting it???

needabmer, the Sirius pre-wire is just that. That actual unit is about $600, and is installed in your trunk area, and plugged into your pre-wire. Then it operates as you have imagined it, seamlessly as your other radio functions do.
In the 06 model is VERY MUCH an option, and as I wrote, it doesn't even always come even if you order it (in Canada)!! I believe in the DIY section there is a how-to of installing the OEM Sat radio, you can see it there.

Bottom line is that you route it through the CD Changer connection, so if you already have that then you're out of luck.
