E92 335D - Check your battery cable!
(oops I meant to put this in the technical forum ... sorry)
Hi Just a heads-up on a possible problem area. The 2 year old 335d Coupe I'm looking to buy wouldn't start. It turned over but wouldn't fire. As it had been standing in a showroom for a while the dealer suspected an airlock in the fuel system. After a jumpstart it eventually ran but wouldn't idle. A couple of trys later it did idle OK but cut out after a couple of hundred metres. Car was collected by BMW. It wasn't the fuel. First they replaced the ECU. They still had problems and eventually traced the problem to a corroded battery cable. I was told initially it was the pipe that drains excess fuel and water from the fuel filler recess that had fallen off alowing the water to run down on to the battery but I now suspect that is not what happened. It is possible that the car has suffered some sort of water ingress in it's recent life which has corroded what was referred to as the battery cable. I noted that the inside of the battery box was wet at the bottom. I'm doing some further investigation and if it turns out that is has had a dunking of some sort then I'll post details of the car here if it's still up for sale - might stop someone else making an expensive mistake Last edited by Max Torque; 05-22-2009 at 07:53 PM..
