Blew the center differential!!
Blew the center diff. This past weekend BMW replacing it no questions asked. Should have it back in a couple of days. Anyone else here have done that? I thought these cars could take a little abuse geuss not.

I was merging onto a highway on one of those cloverleaf turn around roads doing about 60mph in 2nd gear and when i got to the bottom of it to merge on the highway i smashed it into 3rd and it just went. It was late no one was on the roads at the time. I dont drive my car lightly, its a lease it goes back in 3 months.

in RWD car wheel spin would save the gearbox but in AWD car all of the drivetrain shock gets absorbed by the gearbox i suspect the gearbox can take 'a little' abuse, but you were giving it A LOT of abuse, so it broke. I guess that's part of what you pay for with BMW. in EVO/STi/WRX word it would have been a huge back and forth because the dealer would almost certainly have called abuse and tried to deny the warranty claim |

Seems like i am the minority here, but i'm sure the guy knows how to drive(his lease is up in a few months so he has ALOT of expierence with it.) How much drivetrain shock can come from a 2nd-3rd gear shift, regardless of how fast it was? I would think the car had a faulty diff from the factory or something else wrong with it.

here's a good post that discusses "shock load" (you have to wade through some newbie posts to glean the tech) http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1261098 EDIT: OP did you remove the clutch delay valve? |
