warm up lights on M3
Hi Guys
just wondering if the warm up lights on the M3 come on everytime you start the engine from cold as I haven't noticed mine as being lit up as of yet ?

just looked again and it is working as its a sliding scale that comes on full at start up and then diminishes as the engine warms up.

There are no warm up 'lights' on the the new M3 - it's just the sliding scale as previously mentioned. The yellow portion starts at about 5.5k from stone cold and works its way round to about 8k when hot (takes around 10 mins). |

I think they tell you about the point you could take the engine upto (in revs) from a cold start without harming it. No lights around markings mean that it is okay to use till that rev range.

It basically lowers the red-line portion of the rev counter to lower RPM's until the engine warms - as the engine warms, the scale rotates around until that magical 8400RPM red line is reached that only DIESEL drivers can dream about

We are too busy enjoying the torque to be dreaming about RPMs.

Yes but they DONT explain why Bistuics was on all the way round the ring..
M3=fast why would i want 8400rpm when i can deliver over double your torque at only 1700rpm.

Lol Carlos - yours doesn't produce 800 NM (actual standard 580) @ 1,750 RPM ie. the M3 is 400 NM @ 3,900 RPM...........anyhow, it was said in fun.
Imagine if you have both torque & BHP.......torque to get you 'up there' and BHP to carry it on |

They are two different things! The 'warm up indicator' is a sliding ring that surround the rev counter and has the red portion marked on it that shows the red line limit of the car. When you first start the car the red line is indicated at a very low 5000 ish RPM. As the car warms up the outer ring rotates gradually moving the red line to the max revs of 8400 ish. The shift lights sit above this at the top of the 'bezel' and have nothing to do with the 'warm up indicator' Why Biscuits were on all they way round the ring is a mystery? I guess he did move out of first gear lol. Maybe a problem with them? Why would you want 8400RPM? Course the car sounds so damn good, the more you rev it!!! |

Mine has a row of LED's at the top of the instrument cluster above the rev counter - they are moulded into the 'bezel' that surrounds the rev counter - they only work in DCT sequential mode though?

Thats what I thought tbh, but Carlos says that 'Biscuits' ones were illuminates all the waw round the 'ring and his was a 6MT wasn't it? That made me think that all the models must have them?
