2 new tires on XI?

So i have a 325 xi with 2 bad tires on it. i would rather not replace all four but have heard you have to do this on an all wheel drive car

is there any truth to this? i would rather not have to replace all four when i can get away with just 2 until the winters go on, and then so new rims/performance tires in the summer

thanks for any help

I have a 328xi and I'm having all 4 replaced at the same time. There is nothing scientific about my decision, other than I didnt want 2 tires already worn, along with 2 new.

well it's not recommended to do 2 new and leave two old unless it's an emergency or you just don't want to. i would buy all new 4 NON RFT for the price of 2 RFT's.

First, avoid mixing if at all possible due to unstable handling, cornering and less stability at highway speeds as well as unpredictable handling during bad weather conditions.

Second, if you're replacing with the exact same size, brand and model, you'll need to make sure that you're "good" two tires have enough tread depth that so that the new tires aren't different enough in overall diameter to cause problems with the AWD system. I'd say your "good" two tires should have at least 6/32nd of an inch of tread depth remaining.
