engine oil change is covered under new car warranty? I thought it was a wear and tear thing...nonetheless I am out of new car warranty, only have extended.

I am not sure about a 6 series but i find changing the oil on a 3 series is extremely easy....I mean REALLY easy. My dealership charges $129 tax in. To do it myself I usually spend $70 in oil (Mobil 1 0w40) and $15 for a filter so in the end i save about $45.

$200+

That's pure BMW-Tax. Find somewhere else for a whole lot cheaper and get it done there, or better yet, do it yourself. Contact Tischer BMW and get the oil filters in a 10x pack and save tons versus buying locally. You can go for the genuine BMW oil from any local dealership's parts dept. or hit up your closest Canadian Tire and get it a bit cheaper there. All in, it's about 30-40 mins the first time you change the oil yourself and only gets faster every time after that. The money you save on oil changes you can put towards mods

I want to change my own oil too, is there any special equipment that is required for the job? How hard is the process, anyone have a detail step by step DIY guide to changing oil?

I appreciate all the replies everyone. Right now my engine oil service indicator says its -10km so I dont want to drive the car anymore until its changed, which means I need to get it done asap. Before posting this thread I made an appt with BJ on thursday 8:30, hopefully I can find a cheaper alternative by wed so I can cancel and go the cheaper route.

so I got some questions now:

1) someone suggested going to midas or mr lube to get it done because its cheaper, will I have to bring in my own parts (filter and oil) for them to do it or will they already have them?

2) Does the indicator light + indicator in idrive reset automatically after the engine oil is changed, or can only BMW dealerships program to reset it?

3) Silly question, but, if for some reason the engine oil change is done incorrectly and things start messing up, can my car warranty be void?...this is one of the main reasons I pay ridiculous fees from BJ to get services done that any body shop can do (scared of voiding warranty)

4) drift driven, thanks for the invite. I personally would love to watch and see how its done but dont trust myself in actually a good job (I suck at DIY trust me), I wouldnt mind paying you to do mine either if you want?....as long as its cheaper than BJ)

thanks guys!

I never trust the indicator.

I always do an oil change from 6000-7000km.

It costs me $200 for 10W60 with labour, not doing at the dealership.
