What happened to the new intake manifold?

I remember a few months back there was some discussion of a redesigned intake manifold. Any news about this?

I never heard about this but I've been wondering why no one has come out with this product when its a common mod for every other car

Is it really necessary yet? Seems like other things would probably be the bottleneck?

Cylinder 1&6 do not get the same flow as the others, limiting power. Yes, it is necessary...

yup ... and they are working with terry to make a custom map for it ... they said i should be getting it in about a month or two if all the prototype testing goes well (aka im beta testing for them)

Anyone with a pic of the current intake manifold? Want to see if it's obvious why cyl 1&6 wouldn't be getting the same flow. I don't know if I buy that yet.

It is a fact. If you look inside of 1 and 6, then you will agree. Take off your intake manifold and have a look.

Was this verified on a flow bench, or?

In my opinion, all intake manifold limit airflow to some of the cylinders...so necessary, no, but should it increase hp, possibly. I would rather spend my money on a tune, dci, fmic, dp, exhaust, dv, wheels, coilovers, ... before changing out a manifold. It wouldn't be plug and play either, it would require additional tuning due to the added airflow

If the tuners off a specific map, then you bit it is tunable. I would be surprised if the tuners don't.

i know the company making it said they had better flow on a bench flow thingy ... lol i dont really know all the technical terms... lol i already have all those things so intake mani is whats next for me

Sounds like more E90post speculation to me.

The factory intake manifold is actually not that bad.

Thats cool! If I ever get to the point where I don't have any mods left, I personally will go with bigger turbos over a manifold as the small snails would be the next restriction...but a manifold would be a lot easier to take on/off if needed

manifold concerns on a F/I car?

im a bit confused here,
this is a forced induction engine right?

then why all the concerns for the intake, other than overall volume?
spooled up the intake tract is charged (pressurized) .. thinking about the issue with cyls 1/6 become moot or has some one cut the stock manifold in half and found that it is planed (seperated chambers leading to the intake ports)?

the problem(s) with 1/6 become an issue if the engine is N/A and has to draw the intake air charge a further distance from the plenums' center line, normally where is throttle body is located. the resources diminish with distance and speed (the amount of time the intake valve is open and the intake stroke begins vs. the span the air has to travel). but with forced induction the air charge is sitting (and knocking at the intake valve door waiting for it to open) right there -- if it is a common chamber plemun.

so the benefits of an redesigned intake on an F/I engine are not going to be phenomenal.

p.s. has anyone pulled plugs 1/6 to see if they are running leaner than the rest? l know I havent .. but sounds like i might need to

It's all about Volumetric efficiency. If the upgraded intake manifold allows more air in per stroke than in theory you can make more power even with a FI engine. A higher flowing intake might make more power at higher RPM.

If they are addressing efficiency of an already decent intake manifold, the bigger concerns should be the cylinder head and turbo's. Volumetric efficiency should be considered within the entire system, not just the intake manifold.

The intake manifold is already pretty well designed, and from what it seems like, since the N54 was introduced, "tuners" and "fabricators" are popping out of the woodwork day in and day out.
