LCI Halogen DRL's
Just picked up the new car yesterday, i have the halogen lights and have the daylight running lights activated and with them on it illuminates the angel eyes and also the dipped beam. i was wandering if anyone knew if there is anyway you can set it so just the angel eyes come on, it looks better with just the ae's on!
I cant see it in settings on the car wandered if it could be done via a laptop or something? thanks

Hi, hmmm new car smell
Strange, my DRLs only put the rings on? I have xenons but would have though the principal was the same. Are you sure you have the headlight switch in 'OFF' or 'AUTO' only (if you have auto) |

yeah i am loving the new car smell, just hope it lasts for a while
yeah i have the lights set on auto, to be honest i dont see the point in having the dipped beam on as well as the angel eyes, the angel eyes are surely enough. it seems to be a friday afternoon job on the halogen lights, they also put some stupid bulb in for the ae's that dont have a decent aftermarket replcement!

The angel eyes wouldn't illuminate a matchbox at 3 inches! They're only for the looks IMO.
But dipped beam is strong enough to see where you're going in the dark... Do you mean dipped beam or parking light? |

yeah the angel eyes are pretty useless in the day, i wanna change the bulbs for some white leds which may help a little.
yeah i mean the dipped beam. on the halogen lci lights there are two h7 bulbs one for dipped and one for main beam and then there is the angel eyes and thats it and when the drls are on the one h7 bulb and the angel eyes come one

the xenons differ from the non-xenon in the LCI cars. So even though both have Halo rings, the later uses conventional system to light them and not as bright at those on the Xenons which work in the same way as the E92 (I think).
So like us with early E90 models with xenon, there the DRL uses the dipped beam on the non xenon LCI. |

I know exactly what OP is asking but I don't know how to do it. In fact I ran into this thread looking for the fix.
Ok so here's the scenario. On my 2011, I'm not sure how far back this scenarios goes maybe LCI, the button is set to auto. During the day on our Halogen equipped vehicles (non-projector), the DLR lights are the center high beam pods but at a lower brightness, AND the AE are on as well but much lower than the other vehicles equipped with projectors. On vehicles with projects the AE's are used as DLR and are much brighter, you can still see even at night. In fact I've noticed some 2011's have a LED version from the dealer. Super Bright white. So I think what the OP is asking, and it's what I'm looking for as well, how do you turn off the center DLR and make the AE's stay on as DRL and maybe make brighter if possible. I can manually set to the marker setting but thats a pain and the lights won't come on automatically if it gets dark. Did I confuse everyone? |

As far as I know, with non Xenon cars, the only way to get AE only is to turn the switch to the side light setting.
Day time running lights are unfortunately always going to be dipped beam as well as the AE which is a bit annoying. Maybe it's due to the low light level of the hologen AE and so it legally can't be classed as a running light. I'm guessing there are guidelines as it will be a legal requirement to have them fitted soon. Might be wrong though! ;-)

My 08 535 had halogen AE's and they were really bright. My 535 used the halogen AE's as DRL's, but that car is also equipped with the projector lights. Similar to the E90 projector light package, with AE DLR's. In fact I could tell on the 535 that when the lights kicked on, the AE drl's would dim down.
I was hoping there was some ecu mod to turn off the center pod lights and leave the AE's on and then replace the bulbs with 6W led's. Oh well doesn't seem that cut and dry. |
