bmw connected drive - awesome
I got my login today for connected drive and was playing about with it in the office. managed to send sat nav directions and telephone number to the car from google maps.
Was so impressed with the way it works, this has to be one of the best features I have ever seen on a car unfortunately everyone in the office is sooo bored of hearing about it now. My god I think I've become an anorak!

I don't really know as mine is still under 3 years, if it is £110 a year then it could be a close call but I guess I have until November to make my mind up.

It is great, but better to put in an address, rather than find a business and send it's location to the car. Sometimes it's not too accurate and you can end up close to your destination, but lost.

Problem is I only do 6k a yr and can't see myself using it more than 1-2 times a month, so that works out to £5 - £10 a pop, ... I think I'd rather put the address in myself.

It also works well when driving as well, as you can call up the BMW operator and have them send the details to your car!
I was meeting a customer the other day, at a hotel near the M1. Rather than stop and search for it, I simply rang BMW, told them roughly the area it was in and the name of the hotel. Before the call was over the message envelope had appeared on the screen in the vehicle. I hung up, opened the message, which contained the address and tel number of the hotel. Simply clicked on the address and choose to navigate there. Excellent system |

I use the telephone method, it's great, but they will only give you business addresses.
They find the hotel and send the address / tel number in seconds for free. Then you can click on it to nav there, and click to call them and book in aswell. From google you can send any address you like, not just business. BTW its now free for 3 years with new cars, but it was only 6 months with my 2006 car. Also, have you signed up fo the remote door unlocking service? you can phone them up give a password and they'll remotely open the doors for your if you've lost you keys!!! |

I think it's the BIG RED BUTTON.
... though if you're locked out of your car, it could be difficult to press. |

The red button in the overhead console is for the BMW emergency SOS, for when you break down or crash, whether it goes through the same operator i'm not sure. Again this uses the cars own phone system not yours. To sign up for stuff and configure your RSS feeds etc go to https://www.bmw-connected-drive.co.uk and login with the details you should have got in the post. Its a petty the full http web browser shown in the manual isn't available in the UK, typical skinflints. |

Really? I bought my car last summer, just before the new iDrive version came out boasting almost full internet access. I was a bit gutted at the time realising I'd have to settle for RSS feeds on my version. Feel much happier now though, after your post

RSS/Internet? How do you access that?
Who do you call if you get locked out of your car? |
