Autocross - July 26th BMW CCA Golden Gate Chapter
July 26 - This event will be held in combination with the Car Control Clinic on July 25. You can learn and develop new car control skills, and put them to the test at our autocross.
Autocross events are low- to medium-speed auto racing events, that are often run in parking lots and on airport runways. Generally a course will be defined using traffic cones. One driver at a time negotiates a course laid out with the cones, or pylons, testing their skill against the clock. Time penalties are charged for disturbing cones, with a penalty of 1 second per cone. Generally, each driver takes 6 runs at an event, and is awarded the best time of all runs taken. Autocross is an inexpensive, safe way to experience racing. It develops your driving ability, and helps you discover your car's capabilities and limitations -- making you a better, safer driver on the road. Many would-be race drivers use it as a jump point into the sport of road racing, but the greatest thrill of autocross is the challenge of beating your own time. It's fun! Want to read more? Check out our Autocross Primer (Microsoft Word format). GGC does allow non-BMWs to participate in our autocross events, but all participants must be BMW CCA members. If you are not currently a member, you can add a BMW CCA membership during the registration process and pay during checkout. To begin the registration process you must first establish a new account, select a driver number, and classify your car. Even if you have participated in autocross events with us in the past you must select a driver number and classify your car with our new GGC Autocross Tool. Once you have a driver number and you have completed and saved your classification information, you can proceed with online registration and payment. You should not need to re-visit the GGC Autocross tool unless you decide to change your number or modify your car. To register online for the autocross, first establish a new account with MotorsportReg. If you already have an account with MotorsportReg.com simply login and register for the autocross. We no longer accept on-site registration. Event cost is $45 (bag lunch is optional for an extra $5). Our lunch break is only 45 minutes long. You must return on-time! The Driver Meeting begins at 9am. If you miss the Driver Meeting you will not be allowed to participate in the event Anyone going? |

Not to steal the thunder, but this weekend there's also the American Auto-X guys running @ Great America in Santa Clara. It is the first weekend for this site, so it will be a tester, but it is in a really convenient location for those in the Bay Area.
4 run groups - 5 runs per person, $40. Open both 7/25 and 7/26. I'll be attending both days.
